I have had the problem is mentioned above, that students and parents not reading and responding to emails during the school timetable. Or even try to communicate with parents because of any problem their kids have... that's sometimes impossible!

Then we have the other situation, when you set some tasks to do... and you have several students with problems becuase they haven't received the homeworks...

I have had a couple of situations, in which, parents didn't speak English or Spanish and we have had to wait for a person to help us and because of that the communication was almost nothing.

At our school, students have normal paper textbooks and Chromebooks. Our English method has books and a digital environment.

We have digiboards and Apple TVs in all the classrooms. Teachers have laptops; no desktops are available any more.

There is a good wifi connection. Students leave their mobile phones at the entrance in small pockets.

My biggest success was the discovery of Learnbeat, a learning platform that supports our English method 'New Interface' for various high-school levels.

On the one hand we have the digital method 'New Interface' that you can use as a teacher and student; on the other hand you can add up all needed content in Learnbeat. Once I tried Learnbeat (during the pandemic), it became clear to me that I prefered my lessons planned in Learnbeat then follow the lessons directly through the digital method. Here it is why:

I can share a week planning and the lessons to the students, all on one page.

I can upload the lessons and students only have to klick on the lessons.

I can view progress and give feedback.

I can see statistics on how well a student/ class has performed.

I can add material again and again.

I can make my own tests.

I can open it from any device.

All in all, I see no disadvantages on using Learnbeat. I strongly recommend Learnbeat if the platform accept your digital method.

This year the Greek Ministry of Education provides interactive boards to schools.

An example of creative use of the school's digital infrastructure (computers, projectors, internet connection) is remote communication with institutions, parents and trainers to support the teachers' pedagogical work, to hold discussions and trainings.

My school's digital infrastructure looks like this:

Online Assessment Tools**: Teachers use online assessment platforms such as Kahoot, Quizizz or Google Forms to create and administer quizzes, tests and surveys, giving students instant feedback.

Digital classroom resources: The school provides access to a wide range of digital resources such as e-books, educational videos and interactive simulations by subscribing to platforms such as Khan Academy, Discovery Education or YouTube Edu.

Communication tools: Teachers communicate with students and parents through email, messaging apps, e-journals, and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

The biggest success story regarding school digital infrastructure is the successful transition to distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The school quickly adapted to the challenges of closing physical classrooms, using its digital infrastructure to deliver online learning, facilitate communication between teachers, students and parents and maintain continuity of learning. I created a scientific article about this experience.

One creative use of even basic digital infrastructure has been to take virtual field trips using Google Earth. Teachers have used the tool to take students on virtual tours of historical landmarks, natural wonders, and cultural sites around the world, enriching their learning experiences and broadening their perspectives without leaving the classroom. This not only enhanced engagement but also fostered curiosity and exploration among students.

The digital infrastructure at the school is satisfactory. We have a strong network that is only available to teachers and, if necessary, to students. We are equipped with smart boards, each teacher has his own laptop, and students have tablets that they can use as needed. This year, we made a decision to ban the use of mobile devices in school, so that students can no longer access certain tasks online via mobile devices. For the needs of IT classes, we have classrooms with computers. Each classroom has a projector. We have a stem unit for students, mboots, digital sound processing equipment (Carnet's donation)

Our school's digital infrastructure is currently facing several challenges, with outdated digital whiteboards, a lack of personal computers for teachers, antiquated projectors, no digital screens, and limited computers for students in need. Despite assurances that Next Generation EU funds will address these issues, improvements have been slow. Nevertheless, we've creatively utilized our existing resources to enhance learning. A notable success was using old digital whiteboards and projectors for interactive lessons and virtual field trips, providing immersive educational experiences. This approach has helped engage students and somewhat compensated for the lack of modern digital tools.

There is a demand for fast network cabling in all 3 grade levels. In my school there are only 2 Lims positioned inside the non-touch screen structure. The 5 classrooms have one computer assigned for use. In the digital classroom, iPads and digital tools can be used for STE(A)M experiential activities: blue bot, ozobot. Informing the Principal, I brought a television connected to the iPad to school to allow the children to interact in collaborative activities with European partners. They should install LIMm in all sections soon. Personally I purchased the Easy view, We.do2.0, OSMO applications to implement experiential activities in eTwinning

Recently we have had 3 smartboards installed!

I am trying to use the technical infrastructure as much as possible. - internet
- laptops and video projectors in all classes
- tablets for all students
- interactive whiteboard
Since I work with mentally challenged students, technology has helped me a lot. These students need concrete materials, to explore and then the large-scale projection on the blackboard helps them to observe the characteristics of some objects/beings.
All the presentations in the methodical commissions are made with the help of applications, making videos, interactive presentations, we use QR codes for panels, there is no space for many photos, we search for materials in real time.

Unfortunately, until recently, the electronic equipment available was very limited and concentrated in a few addresses. Thanks to the PNRR funds, New Generation Labs, the situation is changing rapidly and new equipment such as digital boards, 3D printers and new NPC stations will soon be available. All this will start a process of improved digitisation, which is absolutely essential and necessary. However, there is still a lack of training for teachers, who need specific, careful and functional training on these tools and specific software.

In my school we have a computer and a projector in every classroom, but some of them are too slow and too old to use them in the lesson. Students can use only their mobiles and their data, because we don't have wi-fi connections, the network collapses everytime. So instead of whiteboards and computers, better is to use classical methods. But sometimes I do my best to involve digital technologies into lessons with a B plan. We have computer labs, but mostly for technical subjects and some of them with a limited amount of working computers, less than students in group. It is very hard to work digitally here. But the headmaster tries to solve these problems. We hope in the future.

Also there are 2 laboratories for computer science teacher, 2 laboratories fully completed by laptops, 2 smartboards, multifunctional printers. There were 5 smartboards at least. Internet connection was good. But it was before the war that started on 24.02.2022 in Ukraine. Kherson had been occupied till 11.11.2023. Russian troops stoled all laptops, computers when they left the city.

Now Kherson is bombing every day (and night). Most of schools are damaged or were destroyed.

During 2 years and now we have been teaching on remote mode. Some students have only mobile phones. Sometimes, because of bombing Internet connection is very bad or it's nor electrosity. That's why it's difficult to say about my school's digital infrastructure.

But different fonds (e.x. UNICEF) are ready to help our Ukrainia schools and provide our students and teachers with tablets and laptops.

In our school, the absence of a computer workshop deprives students of the opportunity to benefit from technological advancements, leaving them at a disadvantage in today's digital age. Without access to computers and related tools, students are unable to develop essential digital literacy skills or explore the vast resources available online for learning and research. This limitation not only hinders their academic progress but also impedes their ability to adapt to an increasingly technology-driven society. As other schools embrace digital learning environments and equip their students with the necessary technological skills, our students are left behind, unable to compete on an equal footing. The absence of a computer workshop is not just a logistical issue; it's a barrier to our students' future success and opportunities in an ever-evolving digital world.

This is pretty bad especially because we do not have any coursebooks and it's a little bit funny when the teacher tries to show the video from her lap top to a whole class of 24 students. There's one classroom well equipped for the ICT classes and one with 20 PCs for all the rest of the classes. There are lap tops for some of the teachers. The technical support is almost non-existent.

How does your school's digital infrastructure look like?

We have a stable cable internet access in every classroom and offices, and a wifi in the building accessable to students and teachers alike. There is a white board and projector with a laptop in every classroom, in 2 out of 4 it is interactive. We have three 3D printers, 20 tablets, 20 sets of Micro:bits, Lego Mindstorm for students. Teachers just last December received a laptop, students have they own smartphones but the state provided them with funds to buy laptops as well (some of them carry it to school). Internally, we use a system called ASc Agenda for administration and evidence of everything connected with teaching and students. I think it is satisfactory, although I see an area for development: the software part is not taken care of, there is no server, the IT teacher/system administrator does not work in our school full time, some of the programmes are not available due to finances (e.g. padlet, Kahoot, Microsoft Teams, etc.)

Can you share some specific examples?

I think I answered it above :)

What is currently your biggest success story regarding your school’s digital infrastructure?

Surprisingly it is not for using it but restricting it. After having introduced a Day without mobiles and having great feedback from students. they themselves asked the management to introduce it on a weekly basis. Even though digital infrastructure is available, they feel it is just a tool and there are more important things to do.

What was the most creative way you’ve used even basic digital infrastructure?

There were several activities included in eTwinning projects. E.g. students created QR codes which hid short content of famous books, they stuck them all around the school, the others had to find them, read and guess the author and title. It was fun :)

For the primary school, we have a video projector at our disposal, which we use where it is most needed. The students have several tablets at their disposal.

One specific example of our digital infrastructure is our online learning management system, which allows teachers to create and deliver virtual classrooms, post assignments, and communicate with students. This platform has been especially useful during the COVID-19 pandemic when in-person classes were not possible.

Our biggest success story regarding our school's digital infrastructure is the implementation of a 1:1 device program, where every student is provided with a laptop or tablet for use in the classroom and at home. This initiative has greatly improved student engagement, collaboration, and access to digital resources.

One of the most creative ways we have used even basic digital infrastructure is through virtual field trips. Using tools like Google Earth and virtual reality headsets, we have taken students on immersive journeys to historical landmarks, scientific research centers, and cultural sites around the world. This has allowed students to experience places they may not have had the opportunity to visit in person, enhancing their learning and expanding their horizons.

Unfortunately, most laptops are locked and only ICT teachers have access to the computer lab. That's why I bring my own laptop or tablet, and my mobile WiFi, and ask my older pupils to bring their own mobile phones. It would be nice to have some lessons in the computer lab like we used to.

The network infrastructure comprises high-speed internet connectivity, Wi-Fi access points in every classroom and robust servers to support various digital platforms such as the online register, which facilitates online assignments, discussions and resource sharing, and three computer labs. Additionally we have implemented interactive whiteboards, digital projectors and a vast array of educational software to enhance teaching and learning experiences. One of our biggest success stories involves the participation of the entire school community to a meeting with a marshal of the carabinieri that was being held in the auditorium. All the students attended the meeting in their classes through the IWB. They were able to listen to the speeches and interact by asking questions. Moreover, a creative use of our basic digital infrastructure was during the implementation of an eTwinning project.

At our school, we've upgraded our digital tools to improve learning and teamwork. In class, we use digital boards to make lessons more engaging and interactive. We have a few laptops available for students, but there's a limit to ensure fair use. Teachers can borrow laptops as needed, and we've sorted out who gets them when.

We've set up special rooms with computers, projectors, and Smart Boards to aid teaching. Plus, every teacher gets a Surface tablet to plan lessons and teach more effectively.

We understand it's tough to access expensive programs. We mostly rely on free tools, even if they're not the fanciest. But we're lucky to have full internet access for both teachers and students. It helps us find cool stuff to learn and improves our lessons.

These trolleys are placed in different floors and teachers can book them for their lessons.

There is Internet and a powerful Wi-Fi connection in the school.

Despite all these resources, 2 groups of students in each level carry their own devices to the school. Students made some infographics, we projected them to walls of our Multimedia lab and they draw lines according to projection on the wall, then they colored it.

Reflection Break

My school’s digital infrastructure has steadily evolved over the years, becoming more robust and integrated with our teaching and administrative practices. We have a reliable internet connection throughout the campus, and all classrooms are equipped with interactive projectors or smartboards, which are regularly used during lessons. Each teacher has access to a school-issued laptop, and students use Chromebooks in the classroom, especially for research, collaborative projects, and assessments.

Specific Examples:

We use Google Workspace for Education, which includes Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, and Forms. This has transformed the way we assign, collect, and provide feedback on student work.

Zoom and Google Meet are used for virtual parent-teacher conferences and professional development sessions.

The school library is now partially digitized, and students can access e-books and online journals through our learning management system.

Padlet and Kahoot! are regularly integrated into lessons to increase engagement and formative assessment.

Biggest Success Story:
Our biggest success has been the seamless transition to blended learning. During periods of remote or hybrid learning, we were able to maintain instructional continuity. Teachers quickly adapted to Google Classroom, and students became more independent and tech-savvy. As a result, even now that we are back in person, we continue to use digital platforms for homework, flipped classroom content, and extra practice. The digital mindset among both staff and students has become a lasting strength.

Most Creative Use of Basic Infrastructure:
One of the most creative ways I’ve used basic digital tools was during a history unit where students created “virtual museums.” Using just Google Slides and embedded YouTube links, they curated exhibits on different historical periods. Each “room” in the museum had clickable objects leading to student-created videos, interactive timelines, or narrated presentations. It was a fun, immersive way to assess their understanding and creativity using tools already familiar to them.
