During the Industrial Revolution money was low and living conditions poor, any money was useful so parents would send children to factories to earn money and the children were left without education (Wilson, 2013). For example the children were working up to 19 hours a day in terrible working conditions for as little as 3-4 pence a day, half the pay of an adult male (Www2.needham.k12.ma.us, 2002). With the start of child labor also became the start of factory acts to end the these conditions for children and after sometime The Rerum Novarum. When factory acts were held work ceased and production was ended so this would effect everyone in society, the high class, the factory owner and the workers. 
Statistics show that although the factory acts occurred shorting hours and introducing a minimum pay and the Rerum Novarum, the numbers of children employed did not decrease until the factories became too hard for children to complete. It is clear that in the Rerum Novarum that child labor is expressed in a negative way the reason behind this is in the Bible it staes that everyone should be treated with respect and employing children to work in terrible conditions for long hours is not respctful. Links can be made from the Bible to Child Labor in 2 passages, Corinthians 12-14 & Romans 9:12. In Corinthians it preaches that children should not be supporting the parents but the parents to them, meaning that children should not be working in factories to help the family. In Romans it states “The older will serve the younger." implying that the adults will do the work not children.
