This is important because it shows another character trait for Eddie, selflessness. He worried about others before himself and would put others' lives before his own. Eddie saw the little girl by the riding was the cart was about to break and fall he dropped his cane and ran to the girl to save her. As he tried to save the little girl from getting hurt from the ride he got hurt while trying to save her. In Eddie's last minutes of life, he tried to save a little girl he did not know while he lost his own life.

This is important because it shows that Eddie was in love. Marguerite was Eddie's happiness, she made him fall in love and the happiest man. When he thinks about her its always delighted thoughts that make him feel love again. Eddie was talking about Marguerite and how he knew Marguerite would be the woman he married. He explains the moment of Marguerite waving over her shoulder with her dark hair falling over one eye and how that made him feel the same burst of love every time he thought of Marguerite.

This is important because it shows a character trait for Eddie. Eddie was a very caring person. Dominguez was going to Mexico with his wife to see family and gave Dominguez 40 dollars (2 twenty dollar bills). Eddie told him “Get your wife something nice” but Dominguez was not sure about taking the money. As Dominguez was asking Eddie if he was sure Eddie pushed the money into Dominguez's palm. After Eddie pushed the money into Dominguez's palm he continued with his daily tasks.

This is important because I can make a connection with Eddie. Me and Eddie believe the same thing, I always say if my time comes it comes and Eddie believes the same thing. Eddie was explaining how people would say final conversations would be about "It's as if he knew he was going to die.." and how he never believed that. Eddie talks about how in his life mostly everyone he cared about died and some died young. I can connect to that also because a lot of my family members had died when I was young and so were they.

This is important because it shows the love Eddie has for Marguerite. It was Eddies birthday and he was going to be leaving soon for war. Marguerite got a gift for Eddies birthday and his leaving gift. But Eddie wanted to hug her but couldn't get himself to hug her because he would start crying and he did not want to cry. Eddie was not sure if that is a weakness he wanted to bring to war so he did not want to cry.

This is important because it shows a character trait for Eddie and Smitty. They were both confident and brave for sticking up for Rabozzo. The guards shot and killed Raboozo because he was sick and could not do much. Eddie started juggling to distract the guards while Eddie was distracting the guards he got them to open the door and when the guards opened the door Rabozzo and Eddie started throwing rocks at the guards and killed the guards. After they killed the guards Smitty said "For Rabozzo".

This is important because it shows how brave Eddie is. The burn was on fire and Eddie saw a figure inside that looked like a person. All Eddie could think of was his small cousins back at the pier so he tried to go in and help but did not make it in because then the Captain shot him. The Captain shot Eddie in the leg to save him from going in there and getting hurt and possibly not come back out alive. Eddie was not thinking about himself in this moment he was worried about saving the person who was inside.

This is important because it shows the the connection between Eddie and the Captain. The Captain saved Eddies life and because he save Eddies life he kept his promise of no man left behind. The captain was teaching Eddie a lesson on sacrifice and how sacrifice is a part of life. Eddie was aloud to keep living his life because the Captain sacrificing his life to save Eddie. Eddie and the Captain both were connected and played a big role in each other lives.

Third Heaven

This is important because it shows Eddies Third Heaven. Eddies third heaven was at the diner, with a breath taking landscape with mountains and snow. Eddie did not understand what his third heaven was but he spent many hours in places like a diner in his life time. Eddies pain in his knee was still there and he was questioning why he still has pain while in heaven. Why would heaven make you relive your own decay he was asking himself. He thought the Captain was wrong that there was no more people to meet that the diner was his final destination and where he was going to spend his time in heaven.

Third Person (pg 120)

This is important because it explains who Eddies third person is and how Ruby was connected to Eddie. Ruby was connected to Eddie because her husband was the owner of the Ruby pier which was the amusement park Eddie worked at. Rubys husband did not work there while Eddie worked at the amusement park because when her husband was the owner there was tragic moment and there was a big fire. Ruby was at the hostipal when she met Eddies father while he was in his last minutes of life. Eddie did not remember at first how he knew of Ruby until he remembered the picture of Ruby in the back of the shop.

This is important because it shows that Eddies father was proud of him for something. Eddie and his father did not have the best relationship but there was certain things that made his father proud of Eddie. Eddie would get into fights and when he came home after winning the fight his father would be proud. His father was also proud of Eddie when he played baseball and hit the ball over the fence. Eddie had to protect his brother and make sure nobody messed with him which also made his father proud.

This is important because it shows why Eddie kept his distance from his father. His father was abusive to him and Eddie was never allowed to stand up for himself. Eddie's father was playing cards and Eddie was standing behind his father. His father did not like that because Eddie was “breathing” on him. So his father turned around and smacked Eddie which caused Eddie to burst into tears. After that, Eddie never got too close to his father again. Eddies father would beat him and his brother with belts, he was never too close with his father only his mother because his father never showed love to Eddie.

This is important because it shows the impact Marguerite had on Eddie. She made every birthday important and special for Eddie since he just thought of it as another day. When Marguerite died birthdays were not the same for Eddie, he spent alone. Marguerite would invite friends, and bought taffy for Eddie every year on his birthday. Without Marguerite on Eddies birthday his birthdays went by faster and faster, it was not a special day without Marguerite.

Plot Twist (pg 164)

This is important because it shows why Marguerite and Eddies life changed. She got into an accident that caused her to be in the hospital and due to the bills of the hospital they could not adopt the child they wanted. Her accident was a car crash, she was going to Eddie while he was at the race track gambling. Marguerite did not want Eddie to lose all the money because they were supposed to adopt a kid. Due to all the bills she had to pay for her recovery they did not have enough money to adopt the kid which caused Eddie and Marguerite life to change. They were both quiet and there was a shadow that took place at their table.

This is important because it shows how Marguerite life changed by a second. Eddie was at the race track gambling and won money, Marguerite was going to Eddie so he wouldn’t lose the money he gained. While she was going to stop him she got into a car crash. A bottle of whiskey went through the wind shield and her car went into the concrete divider. She was trying to stop Eddie and her life changed due to it. The car crash caused Eddie and her financial problems.

This is important because it shows no matter the time apart once you find your person you will love them forever and the love will never change. Eddies 4th person to meet in heaven was Marguerite, his wife. Her heaven was the wedding reception and this is where Eddie meets Marguerite at in heaven. He was in denial he did not think it was actually Marguerite. When he saw her his heart nearly burst and he dropped to his knees.
