What is writers workshop?

Writers workshop is the time to work on your writing process, and during the workshop you can talk about what parts of the writing process you engaged in with your peers or alone. Part of the writing workshop is based on social interaction and gathering information from peers. Writers workshop has four components with each one looking different than the last. The first component is a mini-lesson, followed by independent writing time, partner time and ends with sharing. In my classroom a writers workshop will help students incorporate reading, writing, speaking and listening. All these features will be included in the parts of a writers workshop and will benefit the students development as a writer.

My future classroom setup will be open allowing students to sit in pods, which gives them a chance to share their work with other students. This open feature supports writers workshop by letting students easily share their work and get or express ideas from other students.

Mini-Lesson
In the beginning of writers workshop, students will be presented with a "mini-lesson" that lasts around 15 minutes. This lesson will be on something that the students as writers can incorporate into their own writing during class. This will benefit students writing development by giving them the chance to go outside their box and try things in their writing that they may not have tried before.
Independent Writing Time
After the mini- lesson, the students will be given independent writing time.Writers will be allowed 15 minutes of independent writing time in which everyone in the classroom will write! This gives the writers a chance to try to incorporate the skill they were just taught into their own writing.Students will be allowed to go back and edit a piece of writing from their journal, or begin a new piece of writing. This benefits a students writing development because it gives them a chance to experiment within their own writing.
Partner Time
During partner time, students will be able to share their writing with a partner. Students will also be allowed to peer edit their writing during this time. This allows students to get another perspective on their own writing. This benefits students by improving their writing, and learning to take suggestions.
Share
Students will get the chance to share their work with the class, including their peers and other teachers. This will support the students development as writers because it gives them a chance to "publish" their writing, and share their writing piece with their peers.

Inclusiveness in the Classroom

The article talked about how inclusiveness and social skills are related. The articles state that social skills and social participation are reflected upon by schools for children with disabilities. They also state that students with disabilities are lacking the social skills needed for inclusive classrooms. From my past experiences learning about inclusive classrooms, there are many pros and cons to inclusion. In my opinion inclusion can be very beneficial for students with disabilities depending on the disability. Inclusion while it can be beneficial for those with disabilities, it can affect those without disabilities in the class room if a student causes a distraction to others.

This wall includes words that the students may not use in their daily vocabulary. This benefits the writers workshop and the students by expanding their vocabulary and helping them include new words into their daily life.

This allows students to sit down and write in a space thats different than their normal desk. This space is also used for writing conferences between writers.
