Fourteen Points:  The outlined plan for achieving a just and lasting peace.
self-determination: Plan for allowing people to decide for themselves under what government they wished to live.

The Versailles Treaty: While nations were in heated arguments and worrying about their national security, so Germany signed a compromise with allied powers.

But meanwhile several countries were being created.




"A Peace Built on Quicksand": While treaties and allies were formed it only lasted about two decades before coming to an end. It never built a lasting peace and the U.S. became the most dominant country after war.

This narrow sea strait was the gateway to the Ottoman capital, Constantinople. By securing the Dardanelles, the Allies believed that they could take Constantinople, defeat the Turks, and establish a supply line to Russia.




Battles in Africa and Asia: In various parts of Asia and Africa, Germany’s colonial possessions came under assault. English and French troops attacked Germany’s four African possessions. They seized control of three.



America Joins the Fight: Germany had made submarines that were very powerful, and they were used to take down three US ships. In February 1917, another German action pushed the United States closer to war. President Wilson asked Congress to declare war on Germany. The United States entered the war on the side of the Allies.

Women and the War: War meant that governments turned to help from women asnever before. Thousands of women replacedmen in factories, offices, and shops. Women built tanks and munitions, plowedfields, paved streets, and ran hospitals. They also kept troops supplied with food,clothing, and weapons.

In March 1918, the Germans mounted one final, massive attack on the Allies in France. As in the open-ing weeks of the war, the German forces crushed everything in their path. The effort to reach the Marne had exhausted men and supplies alike. Sensing this weakness, theAllies—with the aid of nearly 140,000 fresh U.S. troops—launched a counter attack.

Shifting Alliances Threaten Peace: Germany's foreign policy changed dramatically, and the ruler made Bismarck resign. The ruler didn't want to share power with anyone and was eager to show how mighty Germany had become.
