Emily's character symbolizes the stereotype of the typical upper class southern woman. Therefore Emily would never be seen accepting financial help because that would be even worse than admitting the problem. Emily's dad prevented Emily from marrying; he chased away all the men leaving her alone when he died. I used a picture of a little girl hugging her father because that's all Emily knows and is close to when it comes to family. Emily refuses to acknowledge his death because he was the only other person in her life, since she was always with him she doesn't know life without her father leaving her scared to be alone. Emily maintains her dignity and class even when the towns people spread gossip about her sleeping with Homer. She does not care and disregards the gossip seeming as though she would never stoop that low enough to even acknowledge this gossip. This shows how much influence Mr. Grierson had over Emily; his influence impacted her so much that it didn't leave when he died. She will never be free from the lonely world he created for her. I think throughout Emily's life she felt locked or trapped and continued to be because she's used to it now. Emily stands for a symbol to the citizens, she serves as a reminder of how life was before the Civil War. Emily does not move on to be part of the new generation. I use this image of two pathways because everyday Emily made a choice to still be in the past, it was her decision and the path she wanted to stay on. The Towns people aren't happy that Emily is still single given her age but think that she deserves her loneliness because her family the Grierson's were always high and felt untouched but now she became one of them. To the town's people Emily became powerless as seen in the picture.

The men like to remember how Emily might have been theirs at one point which shows how woman were viewed as objects even in their own home. This image shows multiple men gathered around wearing their Confederate uniforms as said in the quote.
