I read a quote by Euginia Herlihy that says, “Comparison is the most poisonous element in the human heart because it destroys inequity and it robs peace and joy.” This quote goes hand in hand with what I believe because if a child falls victim to comparison by someone they look up to it can take away their happiness which is not creating an ideal learning environment. In my personal experience I grew up with older brothers one of which was the definition of "perfect" he was a two-sport varsity athlete who could have continued in college, he had over a 4.7 GPA, and his social life never lacked either. On the other hand, I am the opposite, and many teachers clarified that to me. I am not a bad student or athlete by any means I try my hardest in everything and have worked so hard but I just don't have a natural talent that he had. One teacher in particular my freshman-year math teacher after handing back my test said your brother wouldn't have gotten that although he meant that in a joking matter, I felt so defeated because in my head I have always felt less than him and hearing my teacher say that just proved it to me. Over the rest of the year, I hated going to math and kept my head down every time I passed him. To my luck, he retired but I still don't forget that day and it makes me as a future educator never want to make a child feel that way. Not only will treating the student as an individual help grow our bond but also help grow their self confidence within themselves.

There are so many horrors in the world and I believe that in educating children, especially younger children, educators should do their best to spread happiness amounts them. This can create a more welcoming and safe environment for the students at school considering we may not know what they are going through at home it could be all negative so spreading positivity among the students despite what they are going through at home is going to be something I extremely value as a future educator. Although I do not have a personal story one thing that this makes me think of is when Ms.Gigl came in to talk to our educators class and she shared that there are students that are my peers who are homeless and that was extremely eye-opening to me that I really have no idea to all the struggles of the people around me. Healthy relationships are vital in making the child feel comfortable and safe and as an aspiring teacher I would not know if there is an adult in their life who makes them feel this way, so I believe I should go out of my way to create this safe environment by building healthy relationships with students. Although I am sure I have had healthy relationships with teachers in the past one example that particularly stands out to me is my freshman-year softball coach. Coach Stathus was amazing from the first time I met him he filled my experience with positivity and matched my energy. He helped me break down my original shyness and become a leader. He would randomly have dance breaks with me and always shared a jar of pickles. He was there for everything I needed softball or life-related. I have had many coaches in my life but he has been my favorite and most influential thus far. The quote is from an anonymous but it states, "When the cons outweigh the pros, learn to let it go."  The reason I feel this relates to teaching is that there are going to be hard days and days that may make you question your choice but at the end of the day that isn't what matters.
