These types of questions come up all the time in the exams, and they are usually a nice couple of marks, so understanding how we solve them is key!

Understanding these will also help us in a couple of weeks when we look at simultaneous equations which is where we have two unknowns to find!

Equations are the process of equating one mathematical expression against another, and this is indicated with the '=' sign.

For example:

2+2 = 4

or

2x + 2 = 6

thus x = 2

In terms of todays lesson, we are going to be looking at algebraic equations, in which we will have one unknown such as 'x' or 'y' and we have to solve to find what they equate to.
