There are 5 "levels" that go from the top/most important,  to the bottom and lowest class people. These people are the priestly and most acedemic class. Next, there are the Kshatriyas,  these are the rulers, administratators and worriors. Next, There are the Vaishyas, These are the more normal and average type of people, like merchants, farmers and tradsman. Next, theres the Shudras. See, in 1955 discrimination based from Caste was outlawed. This allowed people in the lower Caste to have some sort of freedom. Like attending schools and getting more and better paying jobs. But givin the fact that it is outlawed, most poeple in India today still use and inforce the Caste System, But in certain areas it is more inforced than others. See before the lowest class people (dalits) were called the "untouchables." They were called this because they were so frowned apon that anyone in the higher class thought that it was a horrile act to even come in contact with them.
