1. I think the media's role in democracy can be either positive or negative depending on the sources as well as the current events taking place at the time. For example, obviously during elections and things like that it is common for republicans and democrats to post positive things for their own representatives and negative things for the other. But even on average days, it really depends on what pages you're following or who your friends with. What you surround yourself with is what you will see the most of.

2. I think the most effective steps we can take to validate the information we consume is to do the extensive research on our own. After coming in to contact with any post, it is important to look for multiple credible sources to find the truth. As for me personally, I do not always look up events or news to validate posts I see on the internet. However, if I plan on spreading information in any way, I always make sure to check the credibility of the information.

3. I think the current hyperpartisanship comes from a foundation of individualism and Americans learning to fight for what they believe in over time. I also think the level of division in the US is problematic. When the division in the country leads to the inability to work together and compromise, this is problematic for the American people as a whole.

4. Outside of traditional class, I basically take 3rd period as a study hall period before leaving school to work at my job at Hydrojet Signs and Fabricating. I use this time to work on this class work as well as my online stats class.

In regards to both of these comments, I agree the best thing we can do for ourselves is to stay well educated, involved, and up-to-date on the latest news. To stay "grounded and reasonable" the best thing is to make sure that we are not spreading false information/news and figuring out the truth throughout our own extensive research. Obviously in making sure your sources are credible and supported by other sources, you are setting yourself up with validated information.
