This article explains how churches are being attacked, burned and used as military bases. Catholics and Christians make up about 6% of the population, thus being part of the minority. A Khu Reh-a witness of the events-said, "'They warned us not to leave the church, and said that if they saw anyone coming out, they would shoot,'” which a behavior that is similar to how Jews were threatened in Wiesel's memoir.

The freedom of religion is the 18th right listed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, by the United Nations. It states that everyone has the right to freedom of thought or religion simply because they are human. This right however, is still to this day violated in some countries around the world. The example included in this padlet was in Burma. This is not the only country with this issue, since in other parts of the world this is also the case with other religions as well. Elise Wiesel's memoir illustrates more than once, situations where this right was violated towards Jews, events like this led to the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
