I currently already do Reader's Theater, but got many more resources to find material. Thinking my next unit of stories will be either famous speeches or song lyrics. I plan on incorporating Audacity into my Literacy To Do lists in the near future as well. I haven't quite figured out how to incorporate Padlet but hopefully will be able to soon.

If you asked me what the absolutely best resource on Discovery Ed is - one that every teacher would really benefit from using in class - I would say the Board Builder. The board builder is an excellent way to combine videos, images, writing prompts, comprehension questions, you name it - all in one place. My students particularly love the design and functionality of it because it reminds them of Facebook or Pinterest. The first one I made was on Newton's Laws of Motion. I was able to engage them with cool baseball videos of Roger Clemens, videos from Myth Busters, and videos on roller coasters. But then next to each video is a question to consider and answer (sometimes in small groups, sometimes as individuals). I could go on, but I've created half-a-dozen of these walls and they are very effective.

A lot of times we look at resources like Discovery Ed as "just another thing to learn that I don't have time for". But I tell you honestly, I really think this one makes life easier. I've been creating a lot of my science lesson plans with this tool. You can easily integrate the parts of Discovery Ed that are useful to you and still supplement it's shortcomings with your own ideas.

I learned a lot about boards. I will implement boards into my lessons. I enjoyed Ms. Voss she made learning Discovery Ed easy.

Love the board builder! Wish APS would allow more PD time to develop more boards as a district to use in the classroom. Being able to pull all the resources in one place is great!

Technology is such a powerful tool! Discovery education offers an abundance of unlimited resources. I can't wait to have time to explore and begin building meaningful boards that will be useful tools for myself and students. I plan on using boards as an outline of my lessons.

Thank you for a great, knowledgeable, hands on presentation. We need more of these kinds of PD. I plan on using many of the ideas I learned during the session; I will use the videos to make a readers theater out of a transcript. I also plan to use Discovery Ed to make a board. I love the song features as well.

Thank you so much for your help! I can't wait to use boards with my class. I wish we had more days of PD with you to explore Discovery Ed. I would really like for APS to provide us with more time to collaborate, design, and implement all that we have available to us in Discovery Ed.

I learned how to create a learning board that I could use with my students. I really enjoyed this PD because we learned tools that we can use for all different subjects.

Board Builder is a great tool to use to get students engaged in conversation. The students like the pictures, videos and catchy tunes. The ability to stop the video and ask questions gives the students the opportunity to feel connected to the lesson.

You can make your "Board Builder" ahead of time for each Unit, save them, and share with others under "School Content."

Thank you Ms. Voss for teaching us how to utilize Discovery Ed. it's full of potential!

I have already begun to use Board Builder after Kate modeled it! It was fun building them. I enjoyed pulling together many types of media to teach my children about Neighborhoods/Careers, Weather/Seasons, and Martin Luther King Jr. I can't wait to build more for our Literacy themes. Thank you for teaching us so many fun new techniques for engaging our students.

I created this board for weather after Kate Voss modeled board builder. I used the play/pause strategy while students were viewing the videos. Students were engaged and able to answer deep questions.

Thanks Kate! I have been using Audacity in my classroom with the emotions and readers theater. I like the character trait board we saw today. Can't wait to try it in my own classroom! Appreciate all the great ideas.

I have used Board Builder and was pleased at how easy it was to pull together the resources, very cool. I also have used the Tech Book and will teach the lesson on habitats!

We have used Discovery Board, Padlet, and Reader's Theater w/emotions. My kids LOVE using Padlet and tend to be more engaged in answering questions. The Discovery Board is a nice way to have multiple resources on one page and it also keeps the students engaged. We have had such a good time using Reader's Theater with the different emotion, everyone wants to participate!

We have used audacity to build fluency by making a readers theater piece from discovery ed the digestive system and having the class practice and record to build fluency.

This is a video demonstrating how students used Audacity to build their fluency. They met in a group, discussed how they would assign parts of a poem, practiced, and recorded. They were then able to provide meaningful student-to-student feedback and receive teacher-student feedback.

I use Discovery Education in my classroom for various subject areas. I have used the video clips, text book lessons and board builder. The day of training with Kate on Web 2.0 was very helpful and very informative. I was able to utilize the information in my classroom immediately. I have used Symbaloo daily with my students. After the day of our training on Web 2.0 with Kate, I was immediately able to take some of this back and use it with my class. I now have set up my symbaloo page and my kids use it on a daily basis. I also have all my kids on DE. I can assign differentiated assignments to each student and have them work on this individually or in a small group. My kids and I also love using the videos and the interactive games on DE.

Discovery Board: I am interested in using Discovery Boards for integration of Social Studies and Science in the classroom and for a home/school connection. I am in the process of creating a Science Board and have ideas for using it for Social Studies before the end of the school year.

Answer Garden: I will use Answer Garden as a component of my Discovery Boards.

Since our training, I have observed teachers using Mentimeter, Padlet, Answer Garden, & Board-Builder. This is is the quickest turn-around I have seen at Alvarado in terms of technology training to technology use!
