  • Their skulls all look similar - a long, protruding mouth with an eye and a bit of a hump at the back.
  • All of the species shown have front and back limbs of varying sizes.
  • The images are not arranged in chronological order.
  • The body of Animal 3 is not pictured.
  • In the skeleton of animal 5, we do not see any front leg bones, but they are pictured in the rendering.

Wonder:

  • Did other animals descend from the ancient species that are shown or was it just a linear progression from the Mesonychids to whales?
  • Was there a reason (geologically or historically) that the animals progressed from land-dwelling animals to sea animals?
  • Do we have any evidence that the Mesonychids had stripes or that the Rodhocetus kasrani had that coloring or are we just guessing?
  • Have we ever found any other part of the pakicetus inachus or just the skull?
