It is located between Hawai'i and Moloka'i. Maui is the third island in terms of population (after O'ahu and Hawai'i), with over 117,000 inhabitants. The main cities are Kahului, Wailuku and Hāna.
 The area is 1883.5 km². The island has a tropical climate. On Maui there is an active Haleakala volcano who has 3056 m high. It is also the highest point on the island. Surrounded by Haleakala National Park. Maui is sometimes called the Island of the Valley because of the huge isthmus between two mighty volcanoes. The interior of the island is overgrown with thick forests. Thanks to the fertile, volcanic soils, plantations of pineapples, citrus fruits and sugarcane are being developed. Fisheries and tourism are also the basis of the economy.
