For instance, managers must learn how to coordinate remote/hybrid work and utilize more communication tools such as Zoom, Teams, and more. There is also a bigger focus on work-life balance and mental health. Because of remote work, some people can choose their own hours and work outside of the 9-5 format, but it is important that manager prioritize employees not burning themselves out.

I also think that managers are becoming more aware of how Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion come into play in the workplace and have made it a bigger priority. I’ve worked in a manager role for a year and my education is in history. I want to be more planned, methodical, and intentional in my practice as a manager, and I think learning from great managers, analyzing theories, and reviewing case studies can help provide me with some best practices for when I’m on the job.

While I have a background in teaching, my job blends education and management as I coordinate a staff of student tutors. I have been learning a lot about management on the job, but I’m sure that studying management will help me feel more prepared when I run into challenges.
