         <description><![CDATA[<div>Skiing is both a leisure activity <mark>but</mark> a&nbsp; winter sport. Skiers use long, narrow runners called skis. Skis are attached to a skier's ski boots. Skiers also use thin, metal poles <mark>for</mark> help keep their balance.<br><br>There <mark>have</mark> various events in competitive skiing. They are cross-country skiing, ski jumping, alpine skiing and free-styling. In cross-country skiing, skiers <mark>competition</mark> in races 50 km long or more. In ski jumping, skiers glide down a take-off ramp <mark>so that</mark> reach high speeds before they launch themselves off the end <mark>because</mark> they can travel through the air <mark>farther than</mark> possible. Alpine skiing requires competitors to race downhill through ski gates <mark>of</mark> the fastest time. In free-styling events, skiers ski down slopes or ramps as well as perform tricks and spins.<br><br>Skiing was actually a way to travel <mark>in</mark> snow-covered mountains in Europe.
