New research suggests that fewer than a quarter of 5-10 year olds will read regularly by 2025
·       Children’s reading for pleasure declined further during the lockdown year. 32% of 5-10-year-olds read for pleasure daily/nearly every day in 2020 (41% in 2019 and 55% in 2012)[i]  
·       If reading continues to decline at the same rate, by 2025 just 23% of 5-10s will read for pleasure daily 
·       Research shows being read to every day is the single most effective way to encourage and inspire children to read for pleasure. 
·       64% of parents wish their child would spend more time reading books, but they are not widely aware that reading to their child is the solution. [ii]
·       Reading to under eights is in steep decline. 43% were read to daily or nearly every day in 2020 (60% in 2012) [iii]
·       New Farshore research highlights the impact of reading to children on their own reading ability, schoolwork and wellbeing.
