         <title>Chapter 11: Mrs. Dubose&#39;s Camellias</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Objective Summary:<br>While walking through the neighborhood Jem and Scout encounter their vain neighbor, Mrs. Dubose. One day Mrs. Dubose says to Jem and Scout "Your father's no better than the niggers and trash he works for!" This makes Jem upset so he takes one of Scout's batons and destroys Mrs. Dubose's camellia bushes. As punishment for this act, Atticus makes Jem go to Mrs. Dubose's house and read to her everyday. About a month later, Mrs. Dubose dies and Atticus reveals to Jem that she was addicted to morphine and reading was a way to cope with the addiction. After telling Jem about her addiction, Atticus gives Jem a box with a white camellia inside. <br><br>Atticus Characteristics:<br>- He is calm even though everything around him is chaotic.<br>"It's never and insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is."   (pg.144) <br>- Atticus assumes the best of people. "She as sick for a long time." (pg.147)<br>- He is humble. "I do my best to love everybody.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Objective Summary: Scout asks people if Atticus has any talents, but doesn't find any. On a Saturday, Jem and Scout go out and find a mad dog, which makes everybody go crazy. When Atticus gets home, he is asked to shoot the dog, and that is when Jem and Scout find out that he is the deadest shot in Maycomb County.<br><br>What do we learn about Atticus?:<br>-Atticus is different than the other fathers in the neighborhood. "He did not do things our schoolmates' fathers did." (Pg. 118.)<br>-He is older than the other parents in the neighborhood. "He was nearly 50." (Pg. 118)<br>-Atticus is humble. ""Didn't you know your daddy's- <br>Hush, heck, lets go back to town."  (Pg. 128-129.)<br>-Atticus is good with a gun. "Atticus Finch was the deadest shot in Maycomb County in his time."          <description><![CDATA[<div>Objective Summary:<br>Jem reveals to Scout that he has been acting strangely because of what he found when he went back to the Radley place, a week ago: his pants, folded across the fence, stitched up, as if waiting for him. Jem and Scout later decide that anything they find in the Radley tree's knot-hole is their property, after a ball of twine goes unclaimed for some time, and later find two figures resembling them, a medal, and a watch. They decide that someone is watching them, and leaving these gifts for them. A while later, they are dismayed to find the knot-hole plugged by Mr. Nathan Radley with cement. Mr. Radley claims that the tree was dying, but the kids suspect that he knew that they were getting items from the knot-hole, and disapproved.<br><br>What do we learn about Atticus?<br>- Atticus demands and gets respect from children - Jem asks for permission about the watch (68)<br>- Atticus minds his own business/respects the privacy of others - Doesn't dig into Radley tree business (71)<br>- "If you delete the adjectives, you'll have the facts" (77).<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Objective Summary:&nbsp;<br>On Dill's last day in Macomb, Dill and Jim plan to spy on Boo Radley. So they go to Radley house and peek into the window, and when they don't see anything they go to the back, and see a figure and run. Then, Mr. Radley shoots at them and Jem loses his pants as they run away. Dill tells their parents that they were playing strip poker, and they believe them. Later, Jem goes back to get his pants and comes back trembling.<br>What Do We Learn About Atticus:<br>-Doesn't like the idea of risk/ has a strict set of rules/moral code - Atticus doesn't like gambling, "I don't want to hear about poker in any form. (73)<br>-Atticus doesn't beat his children "Atticus ain't never whipped me since I can remember." Scout doesn't feel great about the game because Atticus caught them and she's pretty sure she saw someone laughing at her in the Radley house.&nbsp;<br><br>About Atticus...<br>- Atticus is very intelligent, "Atticus and my uncle, who went to school at home, knew everything..."
