I have never been a outdoor kid. I like to just chill in my house and listen to really loud music while I do something. I also like sport, I'm a competitive person so most of my life is spent on sports or some type of competitive games.

The picture above is me fishing. It is most the outdoor/ nature related activity I have done. It was a sunny day but I got unlucky because there wasn't a lot of fish to catch that day. It was the first time I went there so I didn't bring anything and got sunburned that day.

In the future, I would love to hunt because it sounds really fun to me. I think hunting would either be an awesome experience or traumatizing experience. It would be awesome because it will be the first time I hunt. It would be traumatizing because I would have to see animal die in front of me, but I doubt that would happen.

Summary: Into the Wild starts with Jim Gallien. He was driving his car and then he see a hitchhiker with a rifle(pg 3) on his back. This hitchhiker's name is Christopher Johnson McCandless that goes with the name Alex. Alex told Gallien that he was going into the bush(pg 5) and live in it for a few months . With the minimal(pg 5) amount of accessory and rice(pg 5) Alex bring with him Gallien advice him not to go to the bush, but Alex was determined(pg 6) to go inside the bush.

Analysis: I think this Alex's plan is really risky and idiotic. He only bring about thirty pounds of goods and a rifle, that is not enough to survive. He also could of face a bear or another dangerous animal. He is the type of not listen to others and must try it himself. Which I think is only good sometimes.

#dontdothis #haveaplan #thinkb4youdo

Summary: The second chapter of Into the Wild start with an expression of the path to the Stampede Trail(pg 10) to get to the bus(pg 10) that Alex was living in for a couple of months. In 1992, six people from Alaska followed the Stampede Trail to an abandoned bus, a bad smell(pg 12), an SOS(pg 12) note, and a red signal flag. One of the men was looking inside the bus and found a sleeping bag and a dead body(pg 13) inside it. They didn't find any identification information about the body because he didn't have a social security card, a driver's license, or anything like that. On the next day, Alaska State Trooper came to the bus and examined the body and his possession. His possession contains a couple of rolls of film and a journal. The people concluded that he died of starvation because that the time of his death, he only weights 76 pounds.

Analysis: I know that this is sad to hear but I think he had this coming on him. I was honestly not surprised about this even if I didn't read that cover. If you think that going into the woods without any help or anything on you is a good idea. Then you deserve this.
#becareful #RIPforestman #pleasebringabackout

When they met Westerberg let Alex stay at his house because of the rain. Then later Alex would of work for Westerberg. Alex wants to escaped his life because he feel estranged(pg 18) from his parents. Alex grew up in an upper-middle-class household. He graduated from Emory university. What the graduated weekend, he told his parents that he would disapear(pg 21) for a while. He also donated the remaining 24 thousand dollars he had to charity. He had a plan for an odyssey(pg 22), an unfiltered(pg 23) journey(pg 22), so he make a new identification and take off.

Analysis: Honestly, I think Alex would of die much earlier if it wasn't for Wayne. I know that he has a family problem, but running away is such a childish solution.
#wrongsolution #therehewent #newidentity

Summary: In this chapter, Alex faces many real challenges for the first time. It started from the two rangers' point of view at Lake Mead National Park. They found an abandoned Datsun(pg 27) B210 out of nowhere and there was a note that the owner is fully attended to leave it there. That was of course Alex's Datsun, he abandoned it because he found himself in a thunderstorm and the car broke down from it. He didn't want all the troubles of repairing it so decided to abandon it. Then he would move to Northern California where he met this guy called Crazy Ernie. Alex worked for him for a couple of days until he realized that he was getting ripped off and stole Ernie's bike to take off. After this, he got a ticket and accidentally told the police his real address(31) which alerted his parents. Then he would move South, to Mexico. Where he almost die and got stuck for one month on a canoe(pg 32). Then he tried to sneak back to the United States but got stopped by law enforcement(pg 31). He lost his handgun. At the end of the chapter, he lost twenty-five pounds(37) but his spirit is still roaring.

Analysis: Yeah this chapter was a tough one. The story almost end here. Even though he made many bad decisions, I still feel bad for him. I don't think he cares though. Respect for continuing his adventure.

#unluckybruh #wewillgetemnexttime #dontstop

He moved around many places, from Las Vegas to Oregon, to Bullhead where he stay for a while. He even opened a bank account and works at McDonald's. He lives as a drifter(pg 40) on the edge of town until an old men offer him a place to live. He then would move to Jan Burres and Bob and he quit his job because he was tired of the "plastic people"(pg 42). He stays with them at "the Slabs"(pg 43) for a while. He help them sell books(pg 43) and was quite good at it. Everyone says he was friendly(pg 44). After a while, he moves away.

Analysis: Surprisingly, he kind of lives like a normal guy.

Summary: In this chapter, we get to meet Ronald A Franz, who is a Vietnam veteran. Alex and Franz met while they were at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. In exchange for a ride, Alex shows Franz the hot spring where he camps. Then the two become friends. Franz told Alex to get a job and calm down while Alex wants Franz to travel and move around. Eventually, the two arrive in San Diego, where Alex attempts to work. Franz wants to adopt(pg 50) Alex, but Alex said no. He would move around February by jumping trains to Seattle. Alex later would send a letter to Franz, informing him that he is at Colton in California. Franz comes to pick him up and drive him to Carthage, where Alex will work for Wayne Westerberg. The two would split up again. When they were apart, Franz took Alex's advice and goes to the desert(pg 50), where he picks up two hitchhikers. Franz tells them about Alex. The two hitchhikers(pg 60) tell Franz that they believe Alex is dead(pg 60), based on the article they read. Franz becomes depressed, and no longer believes in god because how could god let something like this happen to Alex? Then he would drink whisky(pg 60) with the intention of dying.

Analysis: This chapter is honestly sad, a person who you view as your son dies. I couldn't even imagine. Imagine Franz, lost your wife and son and that would happen again as soon as you found someone you view as your own son.
#rip #isgodreal #lifeishard

Summary: Two months after Chris McCandless announce dead, we get to meet with Wayne Westerberg. Westerberg said that McCandless has no common sense (pg 62). We get to know that Chris wants to work here to fund his next trip to Alaska. We also know that Chris feels oppressive(pg 64), irrational(pg 64), and disrespectful(pg 64). Even though he hates his parent, he still loves his sister Carine dearly. McCandless also doesn't have a girlfriend(pg 65) and there is no evidence that he ever had sex before. It is really similar to his heroes, who are really close to nature. On his last night with Wayne Westerberg and Borah, he enters a bar and entertains the locals by playing the piano. Then when McCandless's friend sent him off, Borah discovers McCandless cries when he leaves.

Analysis: I think McCandless overreact to his parent a little bit. He's an adult, he doesn't have to leave his sister behind. Honestly, if you can live with your parents for years, you can live with them for many more years.

#familyisimportant #virgin #lastgoodbye

Summary: Jon Krakauer uses this chapter to show his readers that other men have come to their demise (p. 70) on Alaskan adventures, even if the circumstances are a bit different from those of Chris McCandless. First up is Gene Rossellini, the modern day caveman! Gene heads north from the lower 48 in the early 1970's. He's a super intelligent guy looking to test himself in Alaska ...sound like anyone we know?? Well, "the mayor of Hippie Cove" as Gene is called lives a prehistoric existence, testing himself to see if modern day man can live in the same way as the cavemen did it back in the day. Gene tries his hardest, but sadly writes, "I learned that it is not possible for human beings as we know to live off the land" (p. 75) before plunging a knife through his heart when he realizes the true extent of his failure (p. 75). Next up is crazy John Waterman. Lots of similarities to Chris: he's from the D.C. area, has MAJOR issues with his dad and is super smart. John is an accomplish climber and alpinist (p. 79) before he starts losing his marbles, running for president of the United States on a platform to end hunger. SPOILER ALERT: He doesn't win the election! Anywho, John comes unhinged, decides to climb the most difficult mountain in all of Alaska in the dead of winter and is never heard from again. Alaska state troopers believe he probably fell down a crevasse (p. 80) to his death, although his remains were never found. And last up is poor Carl McCunn. Another transplant from the lower 48, Carl is the life of the party - just like Chris. Good guy, fun to be around, charming, but lacks common sense & thinks someone will bail him out if he ends up in trouble. Similar to Chris, he hatches a plan to go off into the wild for a few months BUT he fails to set up an Uber (think Uber plane!) to come back and pick him up. The summer turns to fall and McCunn is starving and freezing. But wait...a plane flies overhead and it looks like Carl is going to be rescued!!! Unfortunately, Carl doesn't know that waving ONE hand in the air means you're good, no need to rescue you instead of throwing TWO hands in the air, the universal sign for HELP!!! Carl is dying a slow and painful death by a mix of starvation and frostbite, so in his final diary (p. 81) he explains that he shot himself in the head to end his misery. I guess Chris doesn't sound that crazy or unprepared after all, huh???
Analysis: These people are similar to Chris. Super smart guys have problems with their life or family and at some point want to challenge themself to Alaska. All there of them died, so Chris is not the only crazy person. These men share some characteristics with McCandless. Gene Rosellini is really confidence, just like McCandless when he started the journey. McCunn loves nature just like McCandless, but McCunn dies because of his carelessness. I think that Jon Krakauer wants to tell the readers stories with characters similar to McCandless for them to compare those people.
#notjustChris #4-0forAlaska #don'tdothis

Summary: Another chapter about a dude who isn't Chris McCandless. Everett Ruess shares many similarities with our main character though - he's a wanderer (p. 90), free spirit, well liked risk taker and lover of all things solitude and wilderness. Everett is a bit younger than Chris when he begins his vagabond (p. 91) journey, dropping out of UCLA after only one semester to follow his dream (p. 96) of living a nomadic existence. Unlike Chris, Everett focuses his travels in the southwest rather than north, but like Chris he also renames himself choosing the moniker Nemo after the character Captain Nemo in the Jules Verne classic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. And yes, Nemo the fish we know today is named after that character, too! While on a solo expedition in Utah, Ruess seemingly disappears, never to be heard from again. A search party is sent to find him after he goes incommunicado (p. 93), but other than finding his donkey, some cave drawings/graffiti he made and pieces of his gear, Ruess was never seen again. Stories vary on what happen to him - maybe he was a victim of his own reckless innocence (p, 97) and fell while hiking or possibly drown, but some speculate that he was murdered by Native Americans. No one ever found him or his remains, so Everett's end remains a mystery. Like Chris, Everett's passion for nature and adventure won out over a conventional life, yet neither man made it out of the wild...

Analysis: I'm starting to think that going rogue is just a long-last vacation until you die. All it takes is just one trip where they have no contact or connection with others and then it's over. Ruess is like a second McCandless, except he's younger. I think this is just another chapter where Jon Krakauer wants the readers to compare the character
#anotherone #Nemoismissingagain #dontoverestimateurself

Summary: The chapter starts with a New York Times newspaper(pg 99). That a young hiker(pg 98) was found dead at a remote camp. The Alaska trooper(pg 98) couldn't identify Chris because he had no identification on him where he was found dead. The news article could only publish this case with only a few descriptions of Chris. Jim Gallien saw the article and immediately call the police to inform them that he knows Chris. Then the story was on a broadcast and Wayne Westerberg got a hold of the story. Then he would call the police and tell them about Chris's real name and social security number (pg 101). Then the police made contact with Chris's brother using the good old phone book, then he would confirm that the man in the photograph (pg 101) was in fact, Chris.

Analysis: The only reason that the police can't identify Chris's identity is because of how much he hates the government and the only reason that they could find his identity is also because of the friends Chris met along the way. Basically, Chris's characteristics help and hurt his chance of the police finding his identity at the same time
#nointernet #phonebookisthegoat #noidentificationhurts

summary: This chapter focuses more on Chris's family. Chris's father, Walt McCandless says Chris is frustrate him a lot, he also likes his company. Walt married young and was financially successful, but his marriage falls apart. Then he met his current wife, who is Chris's mother, Billie. Walt and Billie are rarely ever home, leaving their children at home. This is the reason why Carine and Chris are so close. Both Carine and Chris protected each other from all the fights that Walt and Billie had. Which strengthens their relationship(pg 110) even more. Chris doesn't like being told what to do, he resisted instruction(pg 111), and that's why he quit the band. Chris is gifted(pg 106), he is good at anything he touches, which is why he is so overconfident. When asked, Chris's friends said that Chris's family just sounds like a completely normal family and that maybe Chris is just overreacting. Chris hates wealth(pg 115), but Billie describes him as a natural capitalist(pg 115). As young as eight years old, he's already selling things around the neighbor hood.

Analysis: This chapter shows us a glimpse of Chris's family and its problems. I personally think that Chris's family is just a normal family, but there might be a deeper secret behind it based on Chris's decision to leave the family.
#hesanatural #youbecomewhatyouhate #justanormalfamily

Summary: This chapter revealed the real reason why Chris hates his parents so much, to the point of leaving them. After Chris's high school graduation, he takes a long trip to the West and only comes back just in time to go to college, losing 30 pounds(pg 118) and almost dying of dehydration(pg 118). In college, he works for the school's newspaper and his grades were high. Something in him clearly changed. During the trips, Chris discovered the deepest secret that his parents are trying to hide from him and try their best to move on(pg 121). He found out that his father, Walt McCandless cheats on his mom and had children back to back with 2 different women, spending time in two different households(pg 121), between his mom and Walt's ex. This is also the real reason why Chris's family move to the East. When Chris found out, he wasn't able to forgive his father and kept it to himself for 2 years. Chris doesn't confront his parents, instead, rages in silence (pg 123). Then he gives away everything he has, except his car, and moves away, leaving his family behind.
Analysis: Yeah I wasn't sure if Chris's family got a bigger secret or if Chris just hates every family. Turns out, both. I was surprised that Chris took 2 years and not earlier. Also on a side note, I felt so bad for Billie.
#whytakesofar #yourwholelifewasalie #unluckyfamily

Summary: This chapter's focus is on Chris's family after they know about Chris's death(pg 129). Carine was extremely close(pg 129) to Chris despite having many differences(pg 129) compared to her brother. She has no objection to wealth(pg 129) and wants to be a millionaire(pg 129) at an early age. Carine briefly talked about their dog Buck, and how much Chris loved it. She also said that the result would differ if Chris brought Buck with him. She then tells a story of her going to Alaska to get Chris's belonging, which was a book, a rifle, and some rolls of film. She then started to eat everything because her brother died due to starvation. Then she can't eat, which causes her to lose some weight. The same thing happen to Billie, she lost 8 pounds. The opposite happens to Walt, he gains 8 pounds.
Analysis: Now that I think about it, Carine is the more stable Chris. She is made up of her parents and is way more realistic than Chris. Maybe if Chris wasn't good at everything he did, he wouldn't be this unstable. I kind of that Carine is good at making money, kind of like her brother and maybe I think she only got that because she is so close to Chris. I can't imagine how hard it is for Carine or anyone to lose someone they are so close with. Hope she's ok.
#whatifhebringbuck #unlucky #ursiblingisyourclone

Summary: To answer Billie McCandless' question at the end of Chapter 13 about why anyone would do what Chris did, Jon Krakauer flips the script and tells his own story of Alaska adventure. At the age of 23, Krakauer decides to head to the great north to find himself not by living in the wild, but by climbing the major mountains in the 49th state. He becomes obsessed with hiking Devil's Thumb, a very steep, challenging ascent on the glacier (p. 138) known as the Stikine Ice Cap. Like Chris, completing this climb becomes the only important thing in Krakauer's life. Chris obsessed over the bush, while Jon's obsession (p. 134) is this rare climbing achievement. Much like he anticipated, the ascent is dangerous and potentially deadly. Krakauer proceeds with caution during whiteout snow storms while crossing over delicate crevasses (p. 140) which could crack and send him tumbling down hundreds of feet. On a beautiful May day, Krakauer decides that this is it, he must summon the courage and concentration (p. 142) he needs to summit this peak today or else...Even with the warm temps and sunny day, the ice is impenetrable and Krakauer panics (p. 143). He can see the summit, but he can't reach it. His only option is down.

Analysis: wow, I didn't know that Jon was a hiker. His story is literally the same as Chris, hates his family and goes climbing some mountains. I think in the next couple of chapters, I think we will get more of how Chris thinks via Jon's perspective.

#anotherone #moremoodycreature #don'thavetorunaway

Summary: So Krakauer makes it back to his tent, all butt hurt that he didn't achieve his goal of summiting Devil's Thumb. In a genius move, he decided to smoke a joint to make himself feel better since he's a bit depressed. Well, he ends up setting his tent on fire causing it to vaporize one of the walls so the temperature inside drops by 30 degrees or so. Good job, Jon! Anyway, this causes him to think about his reason for running away to climb: his volatile (p. 147) history with his father! They have a very similar relationship to Walt and Chris - dad is stubborn, treats his son poorly, pushes him away with his medical school expectations (p. 148) since he himself is a doctor. Yeah, I know: we've heard this story before. Jon uses these complicated (p. 147) family memories as motivation: he's going to attempt to summit the Thumb to prove his disbelieving dad wrong! He fixes his tent by packing it with snow and forges a plan to begin his final ascent on a slightly "easier" side of the mountain, the southeast side. At sunrise, he summons ALL of his courage and overcoming all of the terrifying (p. 150) obstacles, he finally makes it to the top - YAY! He enjoys the view for a minutes, snaps a few pics, and begins his descent. When he finally makes it off the mountain, he tells a few people what he did. They aren't extremely impressed. This makes Jon think about what he did and why he did it, causing him to say, "I thought climbing Devil's Thumb would fix all that was wrong with my life. In the end, of course, it changed almost nothing. But I came to appreciate that mountains make poor receptacles for dreams. And I lived to tell my tale" (p. 155). Years later when writing this book, he realizes that his hubris (p.155) pushed him to his limits to achieve his goal, but that the impact his possible death had on those who loved him would've been catastrophic. This is why he believes that Chris had NO intention to die in the wild, that he was only chasing his young, irresponsible dream.

Analysis: I feel like if your goal is to just prove someone wrong, most of the time, it never feels good. Most of the time the problem won't be solved just because you did it. Also, why is Jon so dumb, he really thought that smoking inside the tent is a good idea.
#dumdestdoctor #itneverfeelgood #whatyoudowontmatter

Summary: In this chapter, the author brings us back to Chris McCandless. McCandless would hitchhike all the way to Canada and then got stuck there for about a week before he met Gaylord Stuckey. Stuckey would pick him up because he enjoys Chris's company. Stuckey said Chris talks about his family a lot. Then Stuckey wants Chris to call his family(pg 159) just for them not to worry. Chris arrive at a university to read about plants and he purchased a gun with about 300 rounds of ammunition. Then he would meet Jim Gallien and Jim would drop him off at Fairbanks, where Chris would find the bus that he would die in. At first, he would only hunt small animals, but then he would get a moose(pg 166). He didn't want to waste any part of the moose, but most of the moose would go to waste because it was too big. Then he would want to return to civilization(pg 168). The only problem was the water is impossible(pg 170) to pass, plus Chris is a weak swimmer(pg 170). Then he would go back to the bus where he would starve to death.

Analysis: I think he used up all of his luck already. This chapter let us see the reasons why McCandless stays on the bus and why he would die there. We can see that Chris was really excited, to be in the bush. I think that it's unfortunate that he would die at the end of his trip.
#badswimmer #don'twastefood #hegottrapped

Summary: Almost one year after Chris McCandless's death. the author, Jon Krakauer takes a visit to the bus that Chris died in. We also get to see ways that Chris could of survive. We get to know that if Chris would of walk another mile, he could of cross the river because it would get widened. Chris would of survive if he could see there was a cable thing that would let him cross the river(pg 173). Chris McCandless wouldn't have died if he would of just taken a map(pg 173) with him instead of arrogance(pg 180). Jon admitted that he was glad to have his friends come with him. When Jon crossed the river and got to where the bus is, he and his friends found all the bones(pg 177) from the animals that McCandless ate. A lot of the Alaskan hunters say that Chris is stupid because the animal that Chris shot was a caribou(pg 177), not a moose. Even though Chris made terrible mistakes over his trip, mistaking a moose for a caribou is not one of them. Inside the bus, Jon found much evidence of Chris McCandless use to stay here, like his boots, or his book.
Analysis: Overall, this chapter let us take a deeper look to Chris's death. It let us see ways that McCandless would escape. I'm not gonna lie, even though Chris die, he still survived for months on this environment and I respect him for that. I'm still kind of mad that he's so close to escape but got unlucky at the end.
#remembertobringmap #freethatboychris #gotthatmoosetho

Summary: Unable to cross the river's high flow(pg 188), McCandless went back to the bus. He hunts and read(pg 188). When he reads Doctor Zhivago, the book talks about the prospect of living life(pg 188) and that happiness(pg 189) is only real when you share it with each other. It seems like McCandless want to leave the place and go back to society but he was far too weak and had no idea how to leave. In his diary, we know that he got sick from wild potatoes or Hedysarum alpinum seeds. This made Jon question why McCandless would eat so many seeds. Jon came to three conclusions that he was unsure about. First, McCandless was hungry and just inhale the seeds he brought from South Dakota. Second, he eats potato seeds, which are toxic. The last conclusion is that McCandless was too tired to identify the seeds correctly because they looks very similar. Jon also pointed out that in the range of 6 miles, there are 3 cabins that would of help him. (only if he had the map). Then he would have a painful death of starvation(pg 198). He leaves a photo and a message that said: "I have had a happy life and thank the Lord. Goodbye and may god bless all".

Analysis: This chapter was more about how and when McCandless dies. I think it's kind of funny that a person like Chris, who is really good at school, is basically a test of memorization, died because he can't differentiate plants. At the end of the chapter, he died alone, but leave a legacy after his death.
#wrongplant #wrongdecision #needamap

Then she saw Chris's pants and say it smelled just like him with a sad smile. She also recognizes the silverware Chris took from Virginia. Then Walt leaves behind a plaque memorial to McCandless's death, with a suitcase of supplies. The suitcase includes Chris's bible and a note to call their family. Both Walt and Bille said they were glad to come where their son dies. Then Walt and Billie would go back to their home.

Analysis: This is actually sad, but it was the closest Walt and Billie had been in 2 years to Chris.

I honestly don't like McCandless. I think one word to describe is selfishly selfless. He would donate all his money, he also hates the idea of capitalism. He's also selfish because he kinda just does want he wants even if it may hurt others. For example, the whole idea of just running away is just heartbreaking for his parents and sister. McCandless is also really dumb, I'm not going to lie. The fact that he thinks going into the bush with like 25 pounds worth of stuff is crazy. I always have myself a backup for an important decision, I could never risk my life like that. I respect the fact he commits so much to his dream, but I still think that it's dumb.
#rip #icouldnever #dontdothis
