We should not expand the seawall on Balboa Island. One of the reasons is that the walls don't hold up for very long, and they can be really expensive to rebuild. They also block out the sea animals from getting to the coast. For example, the sea turtles have to lay their eggs near water, which is dangerous. So, finally, we should not expand the seawall on Balboa Island because it is very expensive and it is dangerous to our sea animals.

We should expand the seawall on Balboa Island, as it would benefit the local residents, the local economy, and overall improve the area. Replenishing seawalls to preserve the beach will help the local residents keep their homes, and avoid the mass immigration to other areas inland. Not only do they preserve the beach and prevent soil erosion, they prevent harsh waves from washing far up the beach and potentially affecting homes and businesses. They help protect areas from flooding, which causes less damage to buildings, thereby keeping insurance prices stable. If we were to not upkeep the seawalls, too many natural disasters would affect the beach, causing insurance rates to rise, landscape to be ruined, and overall tourism to be challenged, which would affect their main economic influx. Overall, Seawalls help protect the land and the people living there. It prevents large amounts of money going in to reconstruct areas that were damaged by the erosion.

As a humble resident of the Newport Beach, I believe that we should not expand the sea wall on Balboa Island. It could cost up to $60 million to replace it and more money to keep it running well. Additionally, it stops movement of sand and eventually reduces the amount of beach there is. I oppose the idea of expanding the seawall on Balboa island because it is way too expensive to replace and have to constantly maintain the entire thing, as well as the fact that it is going to harm the coastal habitats. Let's not waste money on harming nature. #IAintPayingAllat

I do not think building Sea Walls is good for the environment. In the artical provided it states "Inflexible and/or expensive to change" this states that it is very expensive to build and is not easy to keep up on maintenance. Another source of evidence is "walls on beaches can block animals, like turtles from reaching parts of the beach" This area in the artical is talking about how it may be harmful to the enviroment in other aspects like the wildlife. Therefore, with al the evidence provided such as issues with the enviorment and animals, as well as the coast. In all I do not think that we should build the Sea walls.

We should not expand sea walls on Balboa Island. The cost of building the sea wall around Balboa Island will be around 60 million, if the sea walls were built the money would come from taxes and people living in Newport will not want to pay these taxes for something that doesn't effect them. Sea walls also block access and can be ugly.

Balboa Island needs to expand the seawall in order to protect against future flooding. The seawalls need to be rebuilt so the walls do not deteriorate. The walls are old and they do not have the compressive strength of today's standards. They have been corroded by salt. The flooding caused by short seawalls is creating damage to the city. The sea levels are rising by several inches in each year and could be several feet by the end of the century. By fixing the seawalls will experience less frequent floodings.
