Erica gets in a fight with Anna because she thinks she actually wants to go to California but Anna knows she shouldn't.  Anna planned for Lucy to go to California to save Erica and hid Erica's keys to her car. This led Alex to steal Anna's car later. Alex then gets more abusive in their relationship, so much so that he ends up beating Anna to death because she tried to help Erica. They fight in her house and Alex stabs her to finish the job. He basically kidnaps Erica and drags her along with him the whole way.
