Drawing Squared Reflection

For this piece I wanted it to look airy and light, very pastel but have a dark contrast with the eye. In my practice piece I played around with a few different mediums, and I found watercolor and oil/chalk pastels were something that I could use. I really liked messing around with the watercolor for the light effect for the sky/clouds, it would mix easily and you could make it either dark or light so it was easy to work with. For the eye I like how dark the black outline for the eye was. If I were to do something differently I would have probably used something else for the color in the eye, it didn't come out as clear as I hoped.

Cartoon Reflection

My first character, at the bottom, is a witch, I think that's going to be clear to everyone. Her personality is conflicting, a lot of witches recognize the good and evil in them and are somewhere in between so its not meant to be completely clear. During critique people thought I should define whether they were good or evil, a lot of people assumed evil because of the pentagram, but it's drawn from her perspective and a right-side-up pentagram is a symbol of protection to witches, its only evil when flipped. I intended her to be casting a love spell or something similar to that, so there is a lot of pink and red on her altar, the pentagram is used in spells as a general aspect to protect things from going the wrong way. And for my other character, it is meant to be the Roman goddess Venus, this wast very clear so I added her symbol over her heart.

In the picture the witch is invoking Venus while doing a love spell, and Venus is watching over her. They're both smiling, they're familiar to each other. Being a witch isn't officially associated with any religion so I intended the witch to be a worshiper of Venus.

This is a bit of a strange topic to cover for an art project but I'm proud of it.

For this project I wasn't able to be objective about my own face so I chose to layer pictures over a picture of Audrey Hepburn. I chose to do flowers because recently I've been planting seeds and thought it would fit Audrey Hepburn's general aesthetic well. I chose to have flowers sprouting from her rather than just over her because I thought it would look cool to weave it into her hair and draw the eye around her face if I framed it with flowers. I found a nice picture of mainly dark blue with bright yellow daffodils and knew that would help it pop more, I resized the image and dragged it till it framed her face.

During this semester, I learned how to use watercolor, charcoal, oil and chalk pastels and do a 'galaxy stars' effect, along with how to work with angles and other characteristics and how to mix real and abstract elements. I think I learned more about angles and how to use them the most. I struggled with using color to get the effect that I want since I was used to working with graphite. But through the semester, I learned how to use watercolor and how to mix colors to make it look how I wanted it to. I actually love working with colors though it's hard but especially watercolor. In the future, I'd love to use acrylic and learn how to use brush strokes to make it pop off of the canvas.
