It should encapsulate the primary idea, often presenting a view or argument that the author is going to substantiate and support with evidence from credible sources (or hopefully credible sources!) All subsequent paragraphs and discussions should relate back to and support the thesis statement. The thesis should be gripping and state its importance and why the reader should be interested.
