◦ Recover destroyed or partially burnt handwriting
◦ Link typed documents to certain types of computers and/or printers
◦ Testify in court as to the validity of a document or signature
◦ Decipher indented writing

Tools commonly used in the practice of handwriting analysis include microscopes, magnification tools, and measuring instruments.

A ransom note was left behind, which was paid by the parents. The money which was paid for resurfaced later in the city of New York, which ultimately led to the arrest of Richard Hauptmann. 

During his trial, 8 forensic document examiners compared the ransom note to previous samples of Hauptmann’s handwriting and all testified that there were similarities. This led to the conviction and the electrocution of Hauptmann for capital murder in 1936, four years after the kidnapping took place.

While the job isn’t bad itself, I just do not think it’s something I would want to do. I would need a bachelor’s degree in forensic science, and that’s not what I want to go to school for, nor is it what I want to do in the future as a job.
