They have been hit with a virus that was purposely released by the government with the means of population control. Many people die in this first attack, and now their hometown is filled with a contagious virus, and everyone has to evacuate . Things take a turn for the worst when we lose Misty, a young woman. She just complained that her head hurt, fell to the floor, and like that she was over with. Next to go is Toad. But he does it differently this time. He has moments when he lashes out at people, then he physically tries to hurt them. He goes so insane to the point where Thomas has to put him out of his misery. This is when they learn the virus is mutating. The gang continues their journey onward, and next encounters a group that had also been hit with what is now called,  The Flare. But these people are insane. Like, trying to each each other as well as them selves insane. They try to drag Mark into a fire, and would´ve succeeded if Alex hadn´t have showed up to save him. When the two get back to the meeting point, they learn that the rest of the gang is gone, kidnapped by WICKED for some sort of testing. Logically, Mark and Alex head straight for WICKED´s headquarters. They get there, and manage to infiltrate through a pipe thingy in the floor. When underground, they overhear people  talking about the Flare, and are obviously very concerned that the virus is mutating. They say it could lead to dangerous things, and are leaving to look for a cure in Alaska. Alex and Mark are then spotted. They run and hide, grab their friends, jump into a plane, and fly away, just in time. On the plane, Every one witnesses the chaos of the disease, and processes that each one of them has the Flare, except a little girl named Deedee, who is strangely immune. They send her through a Flat Trans, a type of teleportation device, and bravely crash the plane into it, preventing other insane people from going in afterward. Only flaw, they die in the crash.
