That's because his mother died when he was 10 years old.

4. Douglass was 12 years old when he was sent to Baltimore home of Hugh Auld.

5. Muarray joined Douglass in New York and got married in September 15 1838. They used the name Johnson so nobody could find them.

The things that I learned about Douglass is to always stand up for your rights and even though bad things happens to you never give up. Also the central idea that I learned from Douglass is that he really changed things for a lot of black people. For example Douglass tried to stop slavery and he never gave up he tried as hard as he can.

Without any fear of getting caught.
