A greater focus needs to be placed of I.T and children need to be introduced to this at a younger age.

Schools need to move away from the traditional subjects and formulate newer offerings that will equip students to succeed in our current times.

The system was designed through thorough research analysis and implemented. As a result capacitated individials were able to join the workforce as the offering catered was in humanities, sciences,trade and other fields.With the change in force post apartheid the system has crumbled with disastrous consequences The following needs to be re- introduced. 1. All education stakeholdersin the department must have appropriate qualification, experience and skills with a world view world view on education 2. 5. Free education must be provided for all. 6. Introducing subjects such as sex education, LGBT is not helping the children but increasing schoolgirl pregnancies. 7. Raising the pass rate is just a ploy to indicate how well lthe system is being maintained. Good pass rate will produce sound individuals with good values, morals and ethics towards education, thus having a sound workforce. 9. Bring back inspectors to visit schools to evaluate teachers and upskill them. With sound upskilling they will make good professionals when promoted. Sadly the laziness of teachers has produced lazy students thus poor discipline, vandalism, burning of varsities and dropout at schools increasing youth unemployment rate. 10. Loss of skilled workforce through emigration caused by the poor education offered, has cost the country negatively. A serious rehaul of education provision must be examined for high quality of personnel to maintain world class education this country. The Education Minister is clueless as to what actually happens in schools. As if teen age pregnancy and drug abuse has been put aside and no programmes been set to educate the nation properly with good examples and talks and discussions. As a community Activist when I engaged with schools to do a campaign or presentation or awareness with the children in Ip and SENIOR , I was given 5 minutes in assembly. So I agree with how far are they willing to go to help the learners. It’s become curriculum curriculum and more curriculum: life skills and important factors that relate to it are sidelined.

Tests are not the best way to gauge a child’s understanding of the content. Tests assess whether a child can write a test and nothing more. Assessments entail many skills and if a child does not test well, it does not necessarily mean that they do not understand the content. It just means that for one or another reason, they do not perform well in tests. Introducing assessments in Grade 1-3 is ludicrous, in my opinion. We are placing an unnecessary burden on our children when they are not emotionally ready to handle the pressures of assessment. At this age, teachers are very capable of determining if a child in their class understands the concepts taught or not, without formal assessments. The amount of teachers and parents that are pressurising 6-year-old children into doing better in tests is frightening. I have in this past week alone, dealt with 4 parents, whose children (between the ages of 7 – 10) have been diagnosed with anxiety related disorders, stemming from assessment related stress. This is most definitely not what education is about. Assessing in the early years serves absolutely no purpose and should be scrapped immediately.
