Walt Disney was beaten BRUTALLY BY HIS FATHER, and his way of coping with this was to draw cartoons. Cartoons in which he was in control and with every imaginative being he created, was always happy and joyous. Little did he know, his coping mechanism would turn into a franchise that changed the world.

Walt Disney was absurdly crafty and resourceful with everything he was given. He had used the space in his garage to create his own studio. While all of the equipment wasn't rightfully his, he took advantage of this borrowed equipment and accomplished greatness with it. He had begun to produce his own shorts, calling them Laugh-O-Grams. But he found it difficult to persuade local theater owners to show them. Strapped for cash, Disney gave up his apartment and started living out of his office, surviving on cold beans.

Walt Disney took action with his business and limited supplies. He made do very well ! It wasn't until he moved to Los Angeles in 1923, teaming up with his kindly older brother, Roy, who took care of business for him, that Walt began to modestly prosper. Overtime what started out as a literal pad of paper, eventually turned into a growing sensation

Earlier way in the beginning of his career--, his first commercially successful creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, was stolen from him. Disney had carelessly allowed the character to be copyrighted not under his name, but under his distributor's name. It was a mistake Disney would not repeat, not in his whole life.

Everybody know Mickey Mouse, and that Walt had created this iconic mouse figure. However, little does the public know, even in mickey's first 2 cartoons, nobody had paid much attention until 1928 when STEAMBOAT WILLY was released. This cartoon became an INSTANT HUGE HIT. The day after its debut in Manhattan, Variety gave the cartoon a rave review, and The New York Times called it ingenious.

Even though Walt's success was growing, being in the entertainment business and all, anything can happen and that success could end in an instant. However, this only motivated Disney, and eventually he hired a team of artists and animators, and Mickey Mouse films rolled out of the studio. Disney continued to embrace the latest techniques, adopting the new medium of Technicolor just as readily as he had sound.

Walt is such a fascinating character. He inspires me due to his determination. I myself don't have a good relationship with my father and while it may not be to the extent that Walt's relationship was at, I still have that anger, and those coping mechanisms that help and ease that anger away. The fact that this sort of craft can grow into something iconic is something that amazes me !
