The most important components of critical pedagogy are that we shouldn't think that we are superior then out students. The banking is not good because students are seen like sponges and they are just to supposed to learn what the school wants them too. They don't have a say in what they want to do. We should have an open mind and challenging ourselves.

Some things that I can do as a future educator is challenge myself to be more open minded and make my students use their critical thinking skills. I will encourage more peer work, talk about things that are going on in the world that they should know about. I will also encourage my students to speak up for themselves and to stand up for what they believe in, they should be using their voices !!

Critical pedagogy is an approach to teaching that encourages students to question and challenge systems of power, inequality, and oppression. It goes beyond memorizing facts and instead focuses on empowering learners to think critically, reflect on their realities, and take action to transform their communities and the world.

Most Important Components of Critical Pedagogy:

1. Dialogue and Reflection – Creating a classroom environment where open discussion and critical thinking are encouraged.

2. Student Voice and Agency – Valuing students’ experiences and giving them power in their learning process.

3. Social Justice Focus – Teaching students to recognize injustice and inequality and think about how they can create change.

4. Cultural Relevance – Incorporating students’ backgrounds, identities, and cultures into the curriculum.

5. Questioning Dominant Narratives – Encouraging learners to analyze who benefits from the way things are and why.

How I Would Implement Critical Pedagogy in My Future Classroom:

• Foster a safe and respectful space where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and lived experiences.

• Use real-world issues and current events as part of the curriculum to make learning more relevant and engaging.

• Encourage collaborative learning where students work together, share perspectives, and build knowledge collectively.

• Help students develop critical thinking skills by asking open-ended questions and exploring multiple sides of a topic.

• Reflect on my own biases and teaching practices regularly to ensure I am not reinforcing harmful assumptions or systems.

• Involve students in decision-making about what and how they learn to give them ownership of their education.

Critical pedagogy is a teaching approach that encourages students to question and challenge domination, and the beliefs and practices that dominate. Critical Pedagogy in my own words would be the curiosity of not just learning but questioning and challenging the bases of what is being taught or establish.

To me the most important component would be critical thinking. The student should be able to think outside the box and be able to let their curiosity explore as well as process information so they can come down to their own belief.

● What can you do as a teacher in your future classroom to implement aspects of critical pedagogy

One thing for sure would be open-minded. We have to let students voice their thoughts and let them not fear making mistakes for having a certain belief. We have to as teachers also be mindful in what we are teaching or beliefs that we might teach because we don’t want to give a disservice to students.
