Archduke Dranz Ferdinand, the heir of the Austro-Hungarian throne, was killed by a Serbian and member of the black hand. This led to Austria giving Serbia a ultimatum which contained many demands.Serbian leaders agreed to most terms but wanted to negotiate. Austria did not want to negotiate later declaring war on them. Russian's later then got involved because they were allied to the Serbians. Later then many European powers joined in the conflict including the British and the Italian government.

The great Influenza pandemic of 1918-1919, often called the Spanish flu, caused 20-50 million deaths worldwide. Influenza was an unprecedented deadly virus which claimed the lives of many people, this was due to the lack of resources. The Spanish flu originated in England and India and spread through trade routes and war shipments. These war shipments contained machinery and useful supplies to soldiers. As men across the nation were mobilizing to join the army and came together, they brought the virus with them and to those they contacted. This led to a rapid spread of Influenza in other parts of the world like Europe, Russia, Asia, and the United States. Influenza also had a major impact on the war itself, Entire fleets of soldiers were ill with the disease and men on the front were too sick to fight.
Nevertheless, the great war had devastating economic and environmental issues. For example the war came to $338 billion and the destruct of many homes, villages, towns, and farmlands.

The Treaty of Versailles was a treaty between Germany and the Allied powers, it was signed on June 28, 1919. The treaty created a league of Nations. Which was a international association whose goal is keep peace among nations and it punish Germany. The Versailles treaty was one of five treaties negotiated by the Allies. But instead of creating peace it created feelings of bitterness and betrayal among the victor and the defeat. United State rejected the treaty since they thought that the best way to be in peace is to stay away from European affairs. Later United States worked out a separate treaty with Germany and its allies several years later.
