What we learned might impact my instruction as a teacher by allowing me to focus on different activities for students to use when focusing on phonological awareness. I would include the pound it out method and the slide method for green and red words. I have heard of the slide method before but before today I never herald of pounding out syllables. Once the students are comfortable with this activity then we can use the sand to spell words or magnet letters. I also like the idea of having students identify if a word is a “real” or “made up” word by the teacher putting the sounds together on a board.

There are many methods that I learned today about phonics that I could use in my future instruction. The sound assessment method will be useful in identifying the skills of our students. In addition to that, we should use many approaches in phonics instruction. Some ideas I could use for my future teaching include the use of sand trays and dry erase boards. Using this kinesthetic approach, students will be able to acquire the skills needed and have fun learning phonics.

I really enjoyed getting to watch today’s videos on phonics! As a pre-service teacher, I often find myself wondering how I will get this valuable knowledge about actual content when a majority of classes don’t focus on curriculum itself. I appreciated the strategies and resources that were provided. It helps to have a place to start because that is typically where I can see myself struggling in the future.

I enjoyed seeing so many examples of interactive phonics activities that would engage many different types of learners. Some of my favorites were the sand activity and the word building. I liked how a lot of them would work for multiple grade levels. I also was appreciative of the phonics test so that we can meet the students where they are. After giving this test, the videos showed so many ideas of how to teach phonics, and I am excited to implement them into my classroom!

Conner Leicht After class today, I learned many activities that can be used in my future classroom. I liked these activities because it allows me to use many different methods to help teach my student's phonics. Having multiple activities to use will help meet all of the needs of the students who will struggle in my future classroom. My favorite activity that I learned today was the magnet board.
