Confronting too many different cases daily can take the counselor to be too emotionally involved in the students’ life, although we need to care about our students, it is essential for boundaries to be set. I understand that counselors cannot offer other students the help necessary if we entangle ourselves in one specific case. Additionally, I believe that school counselors should always make time to take care of their whole self. We should find time to be with people that we love, participate in activities that bring us joy, and explore different ways to relieve stress. For example, I enjoy painting and that is a way that I relieve accumulated stress. Lastly, I believe that in order to prevent burn out as a counselor, we must network with other counselors to support one another.
