The U.S wanted peace but also wished for the rebuilding of Europe after WWII. The Space Race created tension by the USSR sending the first person to space. This showed that the USSR was more advanced in their technology and was really pushing to get the first person to the moon. The U.S sending the first person to the moon was also a tension maker.
