There are many shows, books, movies, and stories about apocalypse's and dystopian futures. I personally love and enjoy stories with the topic, I think it's important to know what could happen and how people handle it. There weren't zombies or aliens, it was a disease that took more than half the population of the world.

Being a video game lover, one the many video games this book reminded me of were Left 4 Dead, and The Walking Dead. In Left 4 Dead, there isn't necessarily a story, but it takes place in a time where a deadly disease passes that turns humans into people consuming monsters. You have to survive by getting from one check point to another and help your team mates/players. The Walking Dead video game was made by TellTale and is basically the same universe but different characters/story. It has less of the survival aspect and more of the story aspect. They both remind me of the book because it shows the struggle of being in a decrepit world with limited supplies.

The book also reminded me of the book and movie, Ready Player One. I haven't read the book, though I plan on it, I have seen the movie. In the area where the main character is, the buildings are trashy and of course, more decrepit and broken visualization. Everyone is addicted to Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality is actually becoming a popular thing today. Personally I'm a bit scared of seeing this happen. In the perspective of this young man, Wade Watts, he is living the sad reality of the people being obsessed with the VR sets. He himself plays on "The Oasis" and made some friends. It reminds me of Station Eleven because of the war for leadership among the world. In Station Eleven, different tribes traveling across the world looking for food, shelter, and friends, They are also looking for power. Both stories tell how the antagonist wants to take control. In Station Eleven, the antagonist is "The Light" who claims to be a prophecy and will save them all. In Ready Player One, the antagonist is the CEO of Innovative named Nolan Sorrento.

The Lord of the Flies, I(half way)read this book last year for English, and it reminds me of this book in every way. This troop of young boys get in a plane crash and try to survive on this island in the middle of the ocean. The survival topic is very thematic here. The main premise of both of these books are survival. LOTF actually takes place around WW2 while SE takes place 20 years in the future! Unfortunate and unpleasant lives take place anywhere at any time.

Oddly enough, this book is a lot like the cartoon, Rick and Morty. In Rick and Morty, the duo often travel in the past, future, and the present defeating aliens and crazy weird enemies. There was an episode where they caused the population to become zombie like and they had to fight them off and...SURVIVE! It was more of a joke to be dramatic, but the aspect of switching back and forth in time reminds of the book as well. Through out the book they perspective and timeline switch back and forth.

Sadly, this book reminded me of the Holocaust. Actually, many world catastrophes and downfalls could relate immensely to this book. Like I said earlier, through out the book many different characters are fighting for power and leadership. They think for a positive reason, but really in a different perspective, bad. Also, in SE everybody carries weapons and will shoot and kill each other. In WW2 the German soldiers didn't hesitate to kill unwanted company.

A poem written by Elizabeth Fifer states the fact of people living and surviving in the old world still want to live. I believe that because of the tough circumstances people feel more challenged to survive and want to.
"In dystopia, when time has run out and the worst is yet to come, the urge to live still remains."
Being myself and understanding my past, I know I wouldn't last a month in a dystopian future. The sadness, but also the peacefulness of an abandoned world is brought very clear through this poem.

There is a very morbid scary cartoon clip of Mickey Mouse, I don't know the name or when it came out, but there is a clip of Mickey walking through the town and eventually he kills himself. I've been fascinated by this clip for a while now, wondering why the creators made this. It's been known that old cartoons typically have heavier almost inappropriate topics, but this one stuck out. I felt like it related a bit because of the uncomfortableness and the awkwardness of the world around you being empty. The dread being carried with you wherever you walk. I really want to know more about this clip to find out what morbid secrets Disney is really hiding.
