This picture of a possibly Pine tree found outside the school.

The female cone is big, brown, and with scales, surrounding the male cone.

The male cone is orangey-yellow and much smaller than the female cone.

Something interesting: The female cone was sticky when touched. The female cones were very close and surrounds the male cone, possible because the proximity increases the chance of pollen reaching a nearby ovule and fertilizing it.

Location: Outside my house

A lot if female cones were observed. They are the bigger and brown ones with openings that allow them to receive pollen from male. Only a few male cones were observed. They are the smaller ones in yellow.

Something interesting is there was not a lot of male cones on this tree. Also this tree is really tall.

Location:my neighbourhood

The female cones are dark brown in color and larger in size. They have layered scales, with some cones open and others still closed. Most of the male cones are much smaller, soft in texture, and remain hanging on the tree. They appear brownish-yellow with visible pollen on them. Interestingly, most of the female cones have fallen to the ground, while very few male cones can be seen.

Location: Right outside my house

Both male and female cones were observed. The male cones were yellow and soft as they hold many pollen grains. The female cones were brown with a more wood-like texture. Both types of cones were relatively equally sized.

Something interesting: The female cone observed grew closely with the male cones. There were also A LOT more male cones than female cones. (why is that?)

The male corn is left one because there was yellow dust on it. Something interesting is that the male corn was soft and the female corn is hard

Location: outside my house

The female cone is much larger than the male cone. It is darker in colour and much more scaly, rigged and rough.

The male cone was yellow and lighter in colour. It was much smaller then the female cone cone and had excess powder on it.

Something interesting was that the powder on the male cone would fall off with the wind and the female cone was very easy to take of the branch.

This tree was growing in my neighborhood. The brown, woody cones are the female cones, while the slender, yellow upright structures that release spores are the male cones. I also noticed a bright red structure, which appears to be a young, developing female cone. Since the tree was not very tall, I was able to gently shake a branch and watch yellow pollen fall from the male cones.
