As soon as I found the contact information for my work placement provider, I drafted an email introducing myself. In the email I mentioned what I am studying, a little bit about me personally for example my hobbies and interests and I also expressed my gratitude for the opportunity they gave me. Additionally in the email I attached a copy of my curriculum vitae. Curriculum vitae is a Latin phrase for ‘course of life’, it is a document that shows your professional achievements and experience along with your hobbies, recommendations and education. From then on, I communicated with my provider to arrange a schedule that suited us both. On the first day of my placement, I met with Deirdre Walsh and we had a chat she communicated what she expected from me and vice versa. The conversation we had really settled me into the campus and without the chat I feel as though the two weeks would not have run as smoothly. This is a good example of how effective simple communication can be. Following the chat Deirdre introduced me to the group of students I was set to work with. She gave me the chance to explain to the students who I am, why I am in their class and what my objectives are.  Outside the set hours of my placement, I also had a form of communication with the mentor I was assigned. I think having mentors for placement is a really brilliant idea, as it was my first placement it was nice to have some reassurance and advice from a lecturer.
