- SHADING PROJECT -
- SEPTEMBER -
- WATERCOLOR -
- COLORED PENCIL -

Throughout this project I succeeded with shading the flowers, but with that success I learned that you have to be very careful and cautious when shading from light - dark and from dark - light or else you might end up with noticeable lines. I enjoyed the process because it taught me something cool and I think I had pretty good results. I struggled with shading to dark in places I didn't mean to and I'm not satisfied with the background of my piece, because it's so bland and pale - nothing is really going on besides the four corners of my piece. I had difficulties choosing the colors I used and I also had trouble shading the flowers. If I could change my piece I would re-try shading it and make a better looking background.

- BOTANICAL GARDENS PROJECT -
- OCTOBER -
- SOFT PASTEL -

With this work of art I acquired the skill of blending soft pastels, with learning this technique I use soft pastel all the time to create the perfect blend. I very much enjoyed blending the soft pastels together and creating new color combinations. I did struggle with drawing the lotus, and with how much color I should have added to get the perfect colors and variety. I'm not satisfied with this piece's background either because it's so bland and anyone could tell that I did this in a rush. I definitely had some difficulties with composing the perfect colors to accommodate the actual picture of the lotus . If I could change something about my still life I would add something different to the background, maybe like an oil pastel design.

- GROWTH PROJECT -
- NOVEMBER -
- WATERCOLOR -
- COLOR PENCIL -
- CRAY PAS -
- SHARPIE -
- EBONY PENCIL -
- SOFT PASTEL -

This portrait reflects on the growth and change that occurs in my mind. I accomplished the ability of using a few different mediums on one piece. From the use of a variety of mediums I've learned that each medium creates a different texture on the material you are using - in my case paper - for me I used cay pas, soft pastels, and color pencils. I enjoyed expressing my thoughts throughout the stems. I struggled with blending the soft pastels with the cray pas because they are two completely different materials. Overall I am not satisfied with the final product, the flowers look very messy and not precise and the paint color did not come out the way I wanted it to. I had difficulties with drawing the flowers in general, and the words in the stems. I prefered the black and white ebony pencil sketch a whole lot more, in my opinion. If I could redo this project I would take more time on being precise with the whole picture, maybe I would stick to just one or two different mediums.

- SELF PORTRAIT -
- DECEMBER -
- WATERCOLOR -
- TABLE SALT -
- MEDIUM SALT -
- COLOR PENCIL -

As can be seen, this is my self portrait. For this project we had to choose a picture of ourselves that best represents us as a person, something that has meaning behind it. In this portrait I prospered with getting the background color with the texture I wanted. I worked with a new medium - which was salt - with working with it I learned to create a new texture look. I really enjoyed working with salt and water color because I think it created a unique looking piece of art. Although I favored working with the materials I used I did face a few struggles along the way. The thing I struggled with the most was painting the sunglasses. Since I didn't have an all flat surface, every time I would paint over the salt for the sunglasses the watercolor would splatter all over the place so I kept having to make the shape bigger for the glasses. I also had difficulties with drawing the hair and deciding the ideal color combination for it. They hair doesn't satisfy me at all. It looks to frizzy and volumized on only the left side - making it look unproportionate to the right side of the hair. Along with the shape of the hair I also am iffy with the color of it. If I could change my portrait I would tweak my organization of my process - what I mean by that is I would have sprinkled the salt on after I drew all my facial features. I also would have very lightly sketched with ebony pencil because the lines I sketched are still eye catching - even with the watercolor paint over it. The last thing I would change about this piece is the sunglasses - as can be seen the left shade appears to be uneven and a little larger than the right shade, along with that - the right shade is slightly more curved than the left.

I say this because in my "selfie" I am wearing sunglasses - and when people wear sunglasses they are hiding their eyes. In my case - myself as a person - I struggle with making eye contact with people, so having sunglasses in myself portrait was a necessity.

I chose salt as a medium because it constructs a more rare and extraordinary effect. The salt resembles my freckles and how they are unique and not everyone has them.

After letting it dry overnight - the results were so pretty. The salt created a sort of blotchy look in the areas it was it (mainly my face). Since my portrait was dry I started working again, this time using a different medium. I chose to work with color pencil so I could create a more detailed and texture look. So I began shading all of my features and outlining the sunglasses.
