And anger was igniting 

Without a shield or armour,

Grendel would be no charmer.  

With the winter winds arising,

And the population declining

Beowulf, the unexpected hero, 

Plans to take the death toll down to zero,

Grendel comes for a snack,                 Beowulf goes to attack 

The battling pair fight, 

And they lasted all night 

With body parts swinging and flinging, 

The mead hall was surely living

Beowulf takes his arm,

Grendel now can do no harm

With the looming soldier-taker finished,

The Geats can be less skittish, 

Grendel’s arm on the wall, 

They believe Geatland cannot fall

And puts gold in his wagon.

The fire-breather’s temper has been unleashed,

Now he has to face the wrath of the Geats.

Beowulf chose his best fourteen,

But when it came time to fight, some didn’t want to be seen.

Beowulf brought a custom shield,

It wasn’t successful in the field.

He summoned the dragon from his cave,

Trying his best to stay brave.

Wiglaf came to Beowulf’s aid,

No mistakes could be made.

When Beowulf got bit he fought through the pain,

And in the end the dragon was slain.

Laying in pain on his deathbed he said,

Show me the gold so I can lay down my head.

The cowards returned with their heads hanging low,

They weren’t there to witness Beowulf’s bad blow.

Beowulf’s body burned in the funeral pyre,

But his story will never retire.

Danes, no longer in pain

Warriors slept. No one to keep track,

In the midst of their slumber, they were attacked

Grendel’s Mother, hidden by the night,

Snuck in and shaped a fateful sight

Beowulf tracked the Cain-spawn to the mere,

He dove into its depths, decked out in battle-gear

Then the she-beast pulled him down,

Into the dark, dank waters of brown

There is where, brave Beowulf, fought,

But his attempts at damage were for naught

Hrunting simply couldn’t catch on the beast,

The mother’s attacks did not cease 

Beowulf, frantic, desperate for help,

Found a new sword and, with a “Yelp”

The monster retired on her deathbed,

For, strong Beowulf  had her head

But the fearless avenger, still not done,

Chopped off Grendel’s head, just for fun

Bathed in victory and satisfied with his work,

He seized his treasures and emerged from the murk

Sailed to Heorot’s corridors.

The brave soldier took off his mail, 

Not second-guessing nor planning to fail.

The sea-rovers went to bed in peace, 

Not knowing Grendel was coming to feast.

Grendel entered the mead-hall with an empty tummy, 

and then saw some men who looked awfully yummy.

Asleep on his bench lay Beowulf’s thane,

Grendel then grabbed him and tore out his brains.

Beowulf finally stepped in to defend his people, 

and eventually Grendel became very feeble.

In his clutches he grabbed him and held on tight, 

The monster then wished he hadn’t come here to fight.

With all of his power, the Geat ripped off his arm

Grendel ran to his mommy, away from the harm.

Beowulf and his gang celebrated with booze,

Hung the arm on the wall and laid down for a snooze.

The people of Heorot were finally at ease, 

Until Grendel’s mother arrived with guns of Hercules.

By a cup being taken

He plodded down  strong as rocks,

The geats stood in shock

Belligerent Beowulf wanted to fight back,

As he prepared for his attack

As Beowulf went and battled,

The cowards were rattled

Wiglaf comes to Beowulf’s aid,

While the others hid in the shade

Although the fire-fiend was slain,

Beowulf was still in pain

Wiglaf brings treasure,

For Beowulf’s last pleasure

Beowulf took his last breath,

Where he faced his death

After their run,

The hand picked geats were shunned

Beowulf’s death was announced; they cried knowing,

Other groups would be showing

Beowulf was almost near.

Grendel’s mom is super steady,

Beowulf is armed and ready.

Leaping and lunging into the lake,

Beowulf felt like bate.

Beowulf tries and fails,

Grendel’s mom prevails.

Beowulf’s pointed-blade,

Failed to reach it’s owners aid.

Hashing and slashing, try as he might,

Grendel’s mom puts up a fight.

Underwater a sword awaits,

Also including Beowulf’s fate.

 A family heirloom comes to surface,

Beowulf uses it for a purpose.

Hard-pressed and enraged, Beowulf took a swang,

Down fell Grendel’s mom, she hit the ground with a twang.

Grendel’s mom was a sinner,

Therefore; Beowulf was a winner.

To no longer be a burger bar

A horror returns in female form

Mothers avenging sons?  That is not the norm

Grendel’s helicopter mom, aka a troll-wife 

Ensnares Aeschere and then takes his life

Beowulf, deploring grief, extols to his men

Not your place to cry, her life we’ll end

Gearing up with his chain-mail swag

He’ll use Hrunting to behead this hag

Mommy dearest brings Wulfie to watery dark

But his stinging blade makes not a single mark  

Struggling, about to fall

Beowulf spies a giant made life-taker on the wall

Beowulf alone can wield this mighty saber

Swinging it at neck and shoulder, off comes her head with meager labor

Blood spurts to the surface in haste

Is this Beowulf’s demise?  What a waste!

Yet the defeater of monster rises to the surface

Holding a melted hilt and Grendel’s head with a purpose.
