I enjoyed the video as a refresher for math talks. I had not thought of using 2 ten frames to show addition. I found that helpful.

I like how the teacher in the video with the ten frames related all the kids work back to things the students had learned during the year. She helped the kids to see that the things they are learning in class can be used to solve other math problems too.

I enjoyed watching the videos as a refresher to number talks. I liked the use of the ten frames to show addition. It was interesting to see how the children "saw" the numbers to solve the problems. I would like to incorporate more number talks in my classroom. We do a lot of math talk where they share their strategies and talk about how they solved a problem.
- Natasha Miller

I like how in one of the videos the teacher wrote out how the student solved the problem as the child was explaining their strategy so other kids could visualize what they did. Even though number talks is mostly focused on mental math, I'm sure her writing out the steps was helpful to other students. I think it's great that kids aren't just tasked with being able to solve a problem, but explain/justify/defend their thinking and also listen to that of others.

I have loved using the hand signals during math talks. And, one of the videos had the teacher list out all of the answers the students came up with. I have started doing that as well. It's a great way to promote growth mindset and learning from mistakes. We have also been able to use previous charts to help with new problems. I can't have all of the charts up, but having a few is such a good reference! I find myself saying, "Remember ______'s strategy?" Loving number talks!
