People then started to believe that Nixon could be involved in the robbery. As news broke out to the public, citizens kept asking Nixon and the government if all of these accusations are true. Nixon denied the claims every single time. Every single time, he would say "I am not a crook".

Nixon was positive he wouldn't get caught, he even said "You must pursue this investigation of Watergate even if it leads to the president. I'm innocent. You've got to believe I'm innocent. If you don't, take my job."
Eventually, the court found a tape in which Nixon is heard to be covering up many incidents around Watergate, and he was then found guilty of being involved in the scandal.

But now, the public didn't know what to believe. They started losing faith in their president and began to wonder if their country was in  good hands. Bob Woodward, a journalist, summed up America's feelings pretty well: "The fact of the Watergate cover-up is not nearly as interesting as the step into making the cover-up.
