I saw this artist many years ago by accident in an exhibition in London. His work caught my eye through a window and I even managed to talk to him. Tom Lewis uses both illustration and 3D models of his designs from wood to create a real and immersive effect of his world. This is something that I love to do myself, relating both 2D and 3D work together.

i found this artist via instagram as i saw that he had worked on vis dev for two of my favourite pieces of animated media (spider man into the spider verse, blue eye samurai)

his work is very atmospheric and also very nature inspired which i think links well to the concept of ‘ways of being’.

i love his use of colour which really brings the environments he creates to life, as well as the way he layers geometric shapes on top of each other to depict forms - i think i could use some of these principles within my project to give the same look and feel that his art has.

I find it interesting how he interwhines 2 completely different aesthetics into one nightmarish form. His work relates to my own as I also am looking to mutate something organic into an aesthetic that evokes a dream like quality along with a haunting theme. one aspect i could try to interwhine within my own work would be the way he seamlessly morphs something into the other which emits an unsettling aesthetic.

His work is irreverent and mystical, with a large spectrum of emotion present, with a generally dark colour palette. I like how Dringenberg adds metaphorical dimensions to every shadow of every character in the stories.

Looking at Dringenberg's art feels like looking into a dream, places of consciousness we don't understand. This relates to the themes of intelligence in Ways of Being and how things become vague and difficult the more you attempt to define intelligence and the mind. In my own work, I think I could take inspiration from his effective use of colours to create a strong sense of environment that reaches into the soul of the observer.

Dave Mckeane-well known for his illustrations in the book Coraline, is a great artist that has an amazing ability to convey deep narratives through his visual art. his illustrations consist of surreal imagery-which frequently feature surreal and dreamlike elements, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. this evokes a sense of unease or intrigue within his audience, i think his work is so distinctive in style and has so much depth. this can be comprehended just by the mix of medias he chooses to use and the unique layering that is created from that. an aspect of his work id like to include within mine would be his imaginative and dreamlike essence-the fantasy. he does this by distorting his figures and incorportating surreal and fantastical elements pushing away from standard and ordinary perceptions of the subject.

she is a tattoo artist as well as an illustrator but i love how delicate her work is, and her subversion of natural forms into more spindly and twining shapes

i think this is something i could bring into this project, especially the use of thin lines a blue ink

i have 2 of her art books which show her process really well, she uses the lasso tool via digital programs to create shapes, and then renders and blends to make these really dynamic images with a painterly style

she also makes use of natural forms and a mix of bold and diffused lighting which makes her characters and landscapes seem to glow and i would love to replicate this

i like how many of her illustrations revolve around a theme but always contain a person, i would like to include this composition in my work as i am most interested in drawing people
