As Moral Agents (10 Hurtado) by Rona Cyndale Pal

Write your Class Number and Name before giving your answer. Reflection Questions: (1) How do you decide whether something is good or bad? Who or what influences your decisions? (2) Do you think this generation still has a strong “sense of sin”? Why or why not? (3) Have you ever tried to justify a wrong action because “everyone is doing it”? What did you learn from that experience?

I listen to my conscience and think about whether an action helps or harms others. My family and faith remind me to be honest and fair. Many people think right and wrong depend on opinion, so some bad actions seem normal now. The CBCP letter said many have lost their sense of sin, and I agree because social media often makes people numb to what’s wrong. Still, there are young people who care about truth and justice; they just need good guidance and examples.

Yes, I once thought it was fine to copy in school because many classmates did it. At first, it felt normal, but later I felt guilty and knew it was wrong. I learned that even if everyone does something bad, it’s still not right.

1. I believe people naturally have a sense of what is right and wrong because that law is written in the human heart. When I decide if something is good or bad, I listen to my conscience and think about what I was taught by my family and my faith. I try to reflect on whether my actions bring good to others and if they follow the values that I believe in.

2. I think this generation has less of a sense of sin compared to the past. There are so many negative things happening in the world that make people lose their trust in God. Some begin to question if God is even still there because of all the bad things they see. As people become less religious and lose faith, their sense of what is sinful or morally wrong also becomes weaker. It’s not as strong as it used to be in the older generations who had a deeper faith in God.

3. Yes, I have done that many times. Sometimes I get influenced by others because when I see everyone doing something, I also feel tempted to do it, similar to how people follow trends. But I learned that just because many people are doing something, it does not make it right. It is better to stay true to your values and do what is right instead of following the crowd.

1) I decide when whether something is good or bad based on societal norms, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes I decide it with my own judgement based on what is right in my faith. My mom and I influence my decisions and God as well.

2) Based on what I usually see on social media these days, the current generation does not have a strong "sense of sin". Though you can still say that they still have a sense of sin but that is really small and seldom nowadays. They do alot of wrong things and consider it normal because the major crowd considers it right.

3) I have tried to justify an action because everyone is doing it and believe me I really wanted to do it too. But I had obstacles blocking my way, I was even looking for ways to overcome it. Looking back I am grateful for those obstacles because that action was not something to be proud of if I had done it.
