A Confusing Coffee Order ☕

Tom is an English learner who visits a coffee shop every morning before work. One day, he decides to practice his English skills while ordering his coffee.

He confidently says:
👉 “I take a coffee.”

The barista looks at him, a bit confused, and asks:
🔹 “Do you mean ‘I want a coffee’ or ‘I drink coffee’?”

Tom is puzzled. He learned in class that the verb “take” means to grab or pick something up, so he thinks it makes sense. But the barista explains:

🔹 “We use ‘take’ for medicine or a break, but not for coffee. Instead, you should say ‘I drink coffee every morning’ (present simple for routines) or ‘I would like a coffee’ to order.”

Tom laughs and says:
😆 “Oh! I learn something new every day!”

From that day on, he never forgets to say:
✅ “I drink coffee every morning” (routine).
✅ “I would like a coffee” (polite request).

Moral of the Story:

The present simple tense is useful for talking about routines, facts, and general truths. But be careful! Some verbs don’t always translate directly between languages. 😃📚
