When: 1929 - 1939
Who: Most countries around the world (primarily the United States)
Where: Most countries around the world (primarily the United States)

The Great Depression was the worst economic depression in history that began after the stock market crash of 1929. Multiple reasons caused the crash, but on a single day, the market lost almost 11% of its value. The market continued to lower in value with small rises until 1932. This caused businesses to spend more, and consumers to try to spend less. Also, in the mid-1930s, a severe drought majorly hurt one of the major agricultural lands in America. Prices of many items did go down, but that didn't help the fact that the unemployment rate went up nearly 607% in the United States during the Great Depression. The effects of the Great Depression lasted until 1939 when recovery was nearly complete due to factors like World War II.

When: April 15th, 1912 (sinking)
Who: Captain Edward Smith, White Star Line (company)
Where: United Kingdom, United States, Canada

The RMS Titanic was a British cruise ship that went into operation in 1912. The building of the liner started in 1909, and was completed on April 2, 1912. The RMS Titanic started its maiden voyage on April 10th, 1912. After stopping in France and Ireland, it then started its trip west towards New York. On April 14th, near the land of Canada, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg at 11:40 pm ship's time. The collision made a massive hole in the side of the ship and breached too many watertight compartments for the ship to handle. The RMS Titanic did not have enough lifeboats to hold everyone, and by 2:20 am, when the ship broke into two, there were still over 1,000 people on board. In the end, more than 1,500 people died, which made it the deadliest accident of a single ship up to the time, and still one of the most deadliest ship accidents.
