There is a boy named Jonas and he has a little sister named Lily, he lives in a place called the community and there is a cargo plane that brings supplies. There was a plane that flew over them and everyone was scared, the were forced to go inside. There was an announcement about the pilot of the plane getting "released".

Jonas rides his bike with Fiona to their new jobs. Jonas meets the old receiver. The man is supposed to give Jonas all the old memories of the world. The man tells Jonas that the feelings will be heavy. He try's to explain the feelings Jonas will feel and says:  "It's like going downhill through deep snow on a sled," he said, finally. "At first it's exhilarating: the speed; the sharp, clear air; but then the snow accumulates, builds up on the runners, and you slow, you have to push hard to keep going. Jonas doesn't understand many of the words like snow, because he has never seen or heard of it, so the man starts training him and tells him about the words.
