For example, one of the possible reasons that writing skills have been decreasing over the past 40 years could be because students aren't attached to it, they feel like they don't need it, and so their brain deletes the information, creating space for the stuff that the student finds more interesting. Then since they either didn't pay attention to any of the grammar rules, or just felt like it's not needed, they'll end up bombing an essay or getting writing anxiety like the article said. This problem would never have occurred if the student wouldn't have been subject to monotonous, repetitive grammar tables. Personally I believe I learned most of my writing skills on reading other peoples works. The same way people learn how to speak I think people can learn to write.
