An incumbent is someone already in office who holds an advantage in elections over newcomers. The former incumbent was Republican, giving the candidate from that party an upper hand. The district has consistently voted Republican in the past. These two factors create momentum within the district indicating that it will continue to vote Republican. For instance, specifically, the second district voted for the Republican candidate in the past three presidential elections. Trump, Romney, and McCain, all Republican, were chosen. Therefore, this indicates that it is most likely that Yvette will win this senate race.
