"For curriculum to be understood as process for transforming educational aims and practices, it must be conceptualized as an under-taking that encompasses inquiry & introspection. Therefore, the concept of curriculum should include in-depth examination of practices, interactions, values and visions as well as "an inward journey" (see Slattery, 1995, p56) of personal reflection." (Joseph, P. p.1)

This process of transformation and development needs to include intentional "down time" for all participants, otherwise we're just rearranging busywork and paying lip service to "New Age buzzwords."

We have to know our audience both inside and outside our classrooms when we are looking at curriculum. If we want a just, viable, and equitable curriculum we need to make sure all voices are heard and not just the ones that are our own or the dominant voice of our district's population. This not only includes the content we teach but how we teach it.

The idea is that curriculum doesn't just include the material/information being taught, but it also includes the methods, orientation lens, historical context and social context in which it is delivered. A transformative leader will recognize and examine curriculum in these various dimensions.

This quote makes me think of the importance we have as administrators or curriculum directors when looking at a curriculum review. Curriculum is so much more than just 'what is taught'. We need to be mindful of the purpose of the curriculum we are focusing on as well as the audience to which we are aiming our focus.

Equity in curriculum is a vital priority, but we also have to examine the values of the dominant system that put curriculum in place. In order to address issues of inequity, we have to look through a lens that is both reflective and inclusive.

This quote really brings me back to the ideas of Simon Sinek and the idea of starting with Why. I find that when I am becoming most frustrated with what I am teaching, disillusioned and detached, and my students are as well, that I am not really feeling the WHY of what I am teaching. I have to reconnect. And if there really is no why to it, then that is really truly challenging. Then, I feel I would need to look for an important why to incorporate that perhaps is being overlooked.

This quote does well "summing up" the ideals of curriculum. It seems like a great idea, but very complex and I just dont know if that thought/time necessary is put into place in order to make the curriculum meet these ideals. I dont see our district getting input from teachers, and having those big conversations about transforming education. It seems to be focused point blank on standards...not much more district wide. The rest falls on individual teachers/PLCs
