We transferred to Leander ISD from Beaverton school district in Oregon. My child completed Spanish 1 in 7th Grade. Since Stiles doesn't offer Spanish 2 he was not able to continue Spanish in 8th Grade. Will he be able to go into Spanish 2 in 9th Grade?

Yes - if your child earned a full high school credit for the 7th grade course, then they can take Spanish 2 at RHS.

Are core courses like ELA, Math , Social studies and science considered towards GPA calculations? Does it mean grades of electives aren’t considered for GPA calculations?

Leander ISD weighted GPA includes up to 8 semester grades in English, Math, Science, & Social Studies and up to 4 semester grades in Language. Unweighted GPA includes all courses taken.

Technically, yes. Both classes are double-blocked (meaning they take up 2 class periods in their schedule) and only receive 1 credit. If your child takes both a sport and band for more than 1 year, your counselor will need to meet with you to determine how they earn all credits to graduate in 4 years. Summer classes will be needed to make this happen.

Will we as parents any 1:1 time with the counselors prior to submitting the child course sheets?

Pace is not a term that we use in high school. Students who are in PACE math in middle school are on track to take Algebra 1 in 8th grade. Students do earn high school credit for that Algebra class taken in 8th grade (with a passing grade). Students with Algebra 1 credit will take Geometry next.

Our middle schools do not offer AP courses.

Distinguished Level of Achievement is a graduation plan that lists the specific credits a student needs to earn. The 3 graduation plans can be found in the Leander ISD course catalog. (Page 4)

Multidisciplinary endorsement is a set of classes within the graduation plan. Multidisciplinary endorsement means that students are taking specific core classes during high school. The requirements for multidisciplinary endorsement are on page 25 of the course catalog.

Students can request to take a class at another campus if it is not available at Rouse High School. We typically have to wait until August to finalize the student's schedule because we have to have our master schedule and the other building's master schedule finalized before completing the student schedule. Subcampus students do need to have their own transportation to and from the other campus.

Students who start their language sequence at Rouse cannot continue that sequence at ACC. Specifically, ACC has their own college level prerequisites that are required for Spanish 2. They will not accept a high school Spanish 1 credit to meet their prerequisite.

Dual Credit and AP classes are not the same time. AP Calculus AB is an AP course (not dual credit). In this scenario, AP Calculus will be calculated into high school GPA. Our district policy states that up to 8 semester grades for Math are calculated into weighted GPA. Courses taken starting the summer after 8th grade are calculated into high school GPA.

If a student takes multiple electives in a year, they will end up taking an extra class in the day. Can it happen ?

Students who take an Exam for Acceleration must earn an 80 or higher in both semester exams in order to earn credit. Simply completing Algebra 1 does not necessarily prepare students to pass the Geometry exam for acceleration with an 80 or higher.

CTE stands for Career & Technical Education. It is an umbrella term used to identify a variety of courses that students can take in high school. Rouse High School has courses within the biomedical sciences path. Currently the health science program is available at LHS and CPHS.

There isn't a maximum GPA for a student. GPA is calculated based on a student's earned semester grades. Each class is on a specific GPA scale and GPA points are earned based on the semester grade in each class. You can find all this information beginning on page 41 of the course catalog.

It depends on the time year. Typically, tennis tryouts are in the summer so there is time for the student to choose another elective and only need 1 PE class. If the student drops (or doesn't make) a sport after the school year has start, they will probably have to have 2 PE classes.

Spanish 1 is typically not offered in Leander ISD summer school. There is an ACC dual credit course that we can award Spanish 1 credit for high school. Spanish 1 credit can be earned by taking a dual credit course through ACC. Information about dual credit options are available here. Switching from ACC to a Rouse class may not be always recommended because ACC will not follow our continuous curriculum. There is no Spanish Honors. Leander ISD does have a graduation plan called Distinguished w/Honors which requires 3 credits of the same language. Spanish Honor Society has it's own criteria to be accepted. Credits earned through ACC Dual credit are college credits and can be transferred to another college/university.

Computer science pathway: My son is planning to take the computer science pathway, For, Computer science advanced.. Algebra 1 is the prerequisite. He finished Algebra 1 in 7th grade. On the programs of study sheet, Computer science principles AP is the first class. Will he be able to do Computer science advanced in 9th grade instead of computer science principles AP. Thanks

Rouse will offer the TSI to sophomores beginning this year. This year we are offering 2 TSI testing dates. ACC additionally is offering free TSI testing this year for students applying for dual credit.

Classes actually taught at Rouse: In the course catalog it will tell you if some classes are only offered at certain campuses but we're learning that some classes just aren't offered at Rouse because there aren't enough kids for the class. Is there a list somewhere of the classes actually offered, or the classes that are pending based on interest?
