Piggy is a kind hearted innocent fat boy, who is often teased for his heavy weight and asthma. Piggy seems to have been a very sheltered young boy and he is quite sensitive as a result. Whereas Ralph is a good looking strong boy who is described as pale and physically fit and strong. Ralph is a natural leader due to his physical capabilities, so he naturally takes the role of leadership on the island. Ralph is someone who will put down others to make himself look as we constantly see him doing to Piggy. Lastly Jack is a hard headed boy who is very cocky and believe he should be leader. Jack is constantly showing dominance by picking on piggy and not taking criticism well. Jack is leader of his own group, the choir, and is in charge of hunting.
3. I think some of the boys reactions to different event truly reveal their human nature. For example, Ralph's reaction to the fact that there's no adults reveals that he may be immature and how freedom from adults excites him. Or by Ralph revealing Piggy's nickname to the group after piggy disclosed how he didn't want that could reveal that Ralph is insecure and needs to put down and embarrass others to make himself look and feel better. And Lastly Piggy's effort to get everyone's name shows that he wants to deal with this in a humane and civil manner where everyone feels welcome because maybe Piggy doesn't always feel that way because of his bullying.
4. The significance of the boys' encounter with the wild pig is that they didn't want to kill it earlier because they are still boys and they've never killed before and they felt bad about it. The boys all know that survival is crucial right now and that they all need to pitch in and help in this harsh environment, yet most of the other boys choose to mess around and play instead. I think this shows that in human nature immaturity causes your priorities to shift. The boys such as Ralph, Simon, and Jack see that they need to take useful action in order to survive and they other boys think that they can still play around in the sand and ocean.

3.) I think Ralph and Jack are having a hard time getting along right now because they both are strong willed and have a different opinion on what is more important. For instance, Ralph believes making huts is most crucial to their survival as well as smoke from the fire. And Jack thinks that getting meat is the most important. I think this butting of heads mixed with the two of them being very immature will create somewhat of a civil war between the boys and a challenge of authority and leadership.

5.) In this chapter Simon is revealed as the peace keeper and also very helpful as he is the only one who will help Ralph make a hut. I think this makes him an overall likable character by everyone and is kind of the mediator of the group. He listens to everyone including Piggy and is just very kind. In the beginning of the chapter you can see the boys almost in acceptance of their circumstances. They are just relaxing and almost being care free. They are swimming, building sand castles, and playing. This is different from the rest of the novel so far because usually the boys are panicking and working.

5.) After Ralph's argument withe the hunters Jack apologizes and is met with silence. When the hunters try to restore the fire Ralph wont move and nobody could make him. The hunters had to just find a new place to start the fire. This shows Ralph's authority that they cannot make him move if they tried. This gesture is effective because it is intimidating and strong because it put the hunters in an awkward position which made them vulnerable.

7.) The significance of this chapter title "painted face and long hair" is that it symbolizes unpolished and uncivilized boys as they remain on this island longer. Painted faces while hunting symbolizes savages and hunters. And long hair symbolizes an unpolished and lazy young man. The "Beast in the air" is actually just a parachute that had crashed on the island and when Sam and Eric saw it moving, that was just the wind hitting the chute. It was very easy though for Sam and Eric to jump to the conclusion that it was the beast because everyone had been so fearful of the beast and where it was. Also beecause no one had a clear description of the beast, it was easy for the boys to identify anything that was scary as the beast. This symbolizes the disunity between the boys as each one of them see "the beast" as something different and it creates a lot of confusion. 

2.) Whenever Sam and Eric describe their encounter with the beast they exaggerate their claims and say that the beast chased and attacked them with wings teeth and claws. Although the parachutist never laid a finger on them they still told the others a terrible tale of their encounter. This may show how humans have a need to tell others simply what they want to hear and stretch a story to match. Everyone was expecting to hear a scary tale of the beast and Sam and Eric told just that.

3.) Ralph overcomes Jack's challenge during their discussion about the handling of the beast by getting everyone on his side and nobody backing up Jack. He reminded everyone of the time the fire went out and cause a failed rescue mission. This lets everyone know that he is a qualified leader and knows what he it doing.

6.) Whenever the boys find the castle most of the boys think it is a better idea to stay there and make it their new fort, but Ralph disagrees as the fire is of most importance to their survival. The other boys are immature and want to crush and roll rocks instead of actively working to get rescued. Ralph tells Jack that his hunter are “hunter boys with sticks” and calls them cowardly and weak. Jack is deeply offended by this and calls a meeting where he tells the other boys that Ralph is an unfit chief. he orders another vote for chief, but everyone is too scared to speak up and vote for jack. jack, then embarrassed and angry, decided that he is just going to make his own group and be chief and invites anyone to join him. I think this is going to be a big issue later on in the book because the argument between Ralph and jack is caused the group to be divided and overall weaker. the group is stronger together and now they are falling apart. 

3.) I think the biguns wait until the others are preoccupied to join Jack instead of supporting him in front of the group out of fear. I think they were afraid of the judgement they would've received if they had joined jack then and the people like Ralph would be upset at them. Another explanation was that they might have felt that if they agreed to go with Jack during the meeting, the littluns would come too and follow them which they didn't want.

4.) Whenever Jack and the biguns leave Ralph, he doesn't feel an urgency to win them over and bring them back he just simply believes that they'll come back eventually. This is a significant reaction because it shows a sense of maturity and no need to fetch after them. Its a thought an adult would have.

6.) Jack and the bigguns first decide that whenever they hunt a pig, they will leave a piece of the hunt for the beast as a sort of peace offering. This shows how human nature wants to keep the peace so hopefully in return of a kind gesture no harm will be inflicted of them.

3. roger pushes the rock off the cliff because he had been throwing spears at those below him which created a savage feeling of higher power over the others. he continued to push the limits of his power as he kept leaning on the lever releasing the rock as a threat and eventually he released the lever completely once piggy was vulnerable. 
4. the destruction of the conch symbolizes the destruction of civilization and order within the group. because the conch was used through the story to organize meetings used to maintain some law and order to the group. it’s symbolic that once it’s destroyed the tribes will completely turn to brutally and become savages.

Samneric join Jacks tribe out of fear and as a survival tactic. They know that Jack is the dominant one and hence being on his side will lead to protection and safety from him. They  also expose where Ralph is hiding as a means of Darwinism, selection of the fittest, because they know that if they get caught that they aren't disclosing the hiding spot that Ralph is in, they will be the ones killed and murdered. Samneric become unloyal to Ralph to protect themselves and remain on Jacks good side as he is more capable of damage.
4.) When Samneric say "sharpened a stick at both ends" he means that he is going to kill Ralph and put his head on one end of the stick and the other end he's gonna put in the ground. I believe jack wants to kill Ralph so badly because he still resents him for getting elected at the beginning of the book. He hates Ralph for having power over him and having ownership over the conch and criticizing his hunting methods and leadership methods.
5.) To find Ralph, the boys decide to burn the thicket and forest to burn him down. This is extremely foolish because they could've seriously hurt themselves and it was not a very smart way to find Ralph. This also symbolizes how they are willing to have savage approaches to finding and killing Ralph. They are willing to destroy everything in their path just to kill Ralph over something irrational and unimportant.
8.) It is ironic that the boys are finally saved by a naval officer Percival because of the huge fire that caught the navy's attention. This is ironic because it was what Ralph wanted and suggested from the beginning and now he finally got it and is able to go home in such a moment of desperation.
